Will taking valtrex reduce transmission when I've never had an outbreak?

I found out in 08 during my blood work while I was prego I have herpes. My ex has it as well. I haven't ever had an outbreak & I've started dating someone new. Because we work together I've felt reserved to tell him. If I haven't ever had an outbreak should I start taking the valtrex in case we do go the next step? Does valtrex really work in stopping transmission even when there is no outbreak? So confused :-(

I will gladly take a look at your blood work if you can get a copy of it to make sure that you were properly tested and don't need additional confirmatory testing to be sure of your status since you've never had any obvious lesions to culture. just post the actual numeric results - e.g. hsv1 igg 5.0 and hsv2 igg 2.3 or whatever they are.

do you have to talk about your genital herpes you know you have with this partner? indeed you do! If you don't and they somehow contract hsv2 from you, they can sue you and it's just not worth the hassle.  Talking about it also allows you two to have trust in the relationship as well as hopefully encourages your partner to be open about their own past with you. It's so much more than just protecting a partner against the herpes you know you have, it's about protecting yourself too!!  odds are your partner has never been tested for herpes so they will need to seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test themselves so that you can make educated decisions about what precautions to take together.

does valtrex work to reduce transmission to a partner even if you've never had any obvious herpes ob's? yes it does.

I was in the same boat as you. I was infected with herpes almost 10 years ago and never had an outbreak. My doc gave me some good advice. U can spread it thru shedding and not know it. Its best to take the valtrax everyday while sexually active. Plus think of how u felt when u found out, if u care about someone and like him as much as it seems, you should def have "the talk" before u become sexually active.
