difference between HSV2 and genital HSV1

Can someone explain the difference between HSV2 and genital HSV1, if you have been told by a Doctor you have tested positive for HSV1 and HSV2, does the blood test differentiate between HSV2 and genital HSV1 ?

Get them for sure. It is very, very unlikely you would have received HSV2 from receiving oral sex. If you have HSV2, it would have come from usual vaginal sex.

You really need to get those test results. You need to check that you have firm positives for HSV1 and HSV2 separately. There are many pitfalls associated with suddenly being diagnosed with both types at once. There are wrong tests, misinterpretations and cross reactions that need to be eliminated.

If a person is confirmed with HSV1 and HSV2, then there is almost no doubt that they would have an oral HSV1 infection and a genital HSV2 infection. The chances of any other combination are extremely small.
