genital HSV1 recurrences?

Hi. I was recently diagnosed with genital HSV-1 by a swab and blood test. I believe my current boyfriend (and only my second sexual partner ever) gave it to me orally. I am having a lot of emotional distress over this and would love to get some advice. I had my initial OB this past February. It was the most pain I have ever been in. I recently had by second OB mid-June (about two weeks ago). This OB was much more mild, with just a few bumps. I took a 3 day dosage of valtrex, and it cleared up. However, only about a week after, I started my third OB which I am currently going through. This one has no actual sores or visible effects, but there is itching, burning, and a lot of tingling. Here are my questions:

1. Is it normal to have this many OBs with HSV-1? I know a few are normal in the first year, but two within two weeks seems a little abnormal.
2. Does my frequency indicate the pattern for years to come? Will I always have this many?
3. Should I consider going on daily valtrex for suppression?

It's not that the pain is severe with my current OB, it's just that any symptom down there disables me from moving on with my life. I am a young college student who has many other priorities. However, this has taken over all of my thoughts. Thank you.

I agree it sounds a lot more like vaginitis. So do you think I may not actually have genital hsv-1? My blood tested positive and so did my swab but my symptoms don't really match up.

You can be shedding the virus when other issues are going on down yonder. You mentioned multiple lesions with the recurrence which typically doesn't happy and makes me question it.

Go get tested for vaginitis.

Yes, that makes sense. So do you think my swab on the second "recurrence" could have been inaccurate?

did you go and be seen yet as I suggested?

Even what you consider your 2nd recurrence of herpes doesn't sound like it was herpes going on so best to get checked out. All the valtrex in the world isn't going to make your symptoms go away if it's not a herpes problem. Make sense?

It's been about 2 weeks and I still have a slight tingle/itch and have swollen lymph nodes. I havent had any lesions. Does this sound like herpes?

Hi grace.

The tingling feeling has been going on for about a week now. I took a 3 day dosage of valtrex that ended 2 days ago but it still feels a little weird down there. Do you think this is an OB or something else? Thanks so much

Your current symptoms sound more like vaginitis than herpes. Not unusual to have a herpes recurrence when you have vaginitis too.Best to be seen and get tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally at this point. Not unusual to not have obvious drainage and just itching and tingling.

Not everything that goes on in your genital area will be due to your hsv1. Though typically recurrences of hsv1 genitally are few and far between, sometimes there are more frequent recurrences. Treating each with a 1 or 3 day course of valtrex is all you need when they occur. No need to adjust your dose when you treat them either.

Yes, I am sure the second recurrence was hsv-1 because that is when I got my first swab. Do you think they need to increase my dosage or what?

Hi. Are you sure these are herpes outbreaks?
1. most one have one a year if that. hsv1 does not occur that often.
2. Not average to have this many
3. if these are herpes outbreaks you might want to talk to your doctor about adjusting the dosage for  recurrent or going on suppression but this is most for hsv2
