If you avoid sexual contact during outbreaks and take daily antivirals, it is very unlikely that she will catch it.
I have HSV2
I will be going on antivirals soon she does not have
herpes at all. so what should we do so she won't catch it besides the antivirals I immediately asked to be put on them. I should be starting them tomorrow.
I'm so freaked out about it though I know nothing about it and I don't know what to expect... thanks for replying to me!
1. You should find out what type of herpes you have, i.e. HSV1 or HSV2 via a blood test.
2. Your girlfriend should get the same test. If you have the same type of herpes, it does not matter.
3. If you have HSV1 genitally, you will probably not have very many recurrences. When you are not having an outbreak, fingering is probably okay. However there is a remote chance that she could catch it on her hands.
4. If you have HSV2 genitally, you will likely have recurrences. Similarly when you are having an outbreak she could catch it on her hands. HSV2 also "sheds" without outbreaks. There is a really small chance that she could catch it then.
You could go on antivirals to reduce the chances substantially
