genital herpes....please help .....

Hi, I am a 22yo male. For the past week or so I have had sever soreness around the anal area. So yesterday I went to the doctor and he told me I may have genital herpes....... the week before I took a blood test and was told everything was okay, so I didn't think the problem was an STD. But he told me blood and urine tests don't show for type 2 herpes. He took a swab and now i have to wait a week for the results and the wait is already killing me. He did tell me there was a chance that it could be type 1 if I had any oral contact there which I have. That alone is the only thing keeping me sane right now. I have had unprotected anal sex, but I have had received oral there more on occasions than the actual no condom sex. But then I read that if you have a history of cold sores from type 1 ( which I have) then you can not contract genital herpes from type 1. So now I am feeling extremely down, alone, sexually undesirable, and as if no one will want to actually want to form a relationship with me. So my question is: Can you contract type 1 genital herpes even if you have a history of cold sores around the lip area?

It's very  unlikely you would get HSV1 genitally if you already get cold sores.

Your body would have near 99% immunity to HSV1 if you already have it orally (NB: not a scientific stat, just a useful gauge for this conversation).

If it is HSV2, you can be reassured in some sense that you probably won't be bothered much by it in your life if you already have HSV1. This is because HSV1 does give you about 40% immunity (this is a scientific stat) to HSV2. While it doesn't prevent contraction of the second strain of HSV, it does mean your symptoms and outbreaks will probably be much less than a person who doesn't already have HSV1 immunity.

If it is HSV2, the very first outbreak or two will be the worst, and they will decline in frequency and severity over the next 12 months or so until you might not get any outbreak at all, or the symptoms are so minor you don't even notice them.

Nearly 20% of the adult population in the U.S. has HSV2, and something like 80% of those people who do have it never even know it! That's because for most people the symptoms are not noticeable.

Given how many people already have it, and how many have it and don't know it, you really are NOT the only one. Lots of sexy, smart, successful people have it. And the ones who do know it just don't talk about it because they feel they will be judged. Trust me, you already know dozens and dozens of people who have HSV2 amongst friends, family (even your parents can have it!), co-workers, bosses, your doctor, dentist or landscape gardener. If this was something that people caught on their toes instead of their genitals, no one would really be that concerned! It's part of our phobia about our sexuality. Try to talk to a support person or doctor if you find you're getting really upset about it. Talking about it can help put it in perspective!

type one genital herpes i wouldnt have thought so. Genital herpes is HSV2. Yes it stays for ever in your body. When a virus enters a human cell it merges with human DNA and stays there for ever. I could stay there in a lethargic state not replicating or causing any health symptoms

My question was if you can get type ONE genital herpes if you've already had type 1 cold sores on the lip. The part that bothers me is the idea of having am STD. I know it's not severe compared to others but still. At least its incredibly common with type 1 cold sores. Genital sores are just horrible. You said that it never comes back, but it stays with you forever does it not? There is no cure

Of course you can get genital herpes no matter if you have had a cold sore on your lips or not in the past. The thing is that you could confirm the diagnosis by blood test as there are different IgM and IgG blood test for each strain that can be detected in the blood. The doctor seem to prefer the culture test. You just have to wait. You dont have to feel down about this. Its like the cold sore. Once its gone it will probably never come back and you wont be able to infect anyone when its on remission. This virus like the HSV1 as soon as its been dealt with from your immune system will be '' sleeping '' in your cell DNA until it enters a lytic cycle cos of stress or lowered immunity. I personally have the HSV1 and i have had sever cold sores about three times in my life. Other than that when my lips are ok i cant infect anyone. Neither will you
