HSV1 or HSV2 ???

Hello. I am a 23 year old female. In Nov. 2005 I was diagnosed visually with genital herpes. At the same time, I also had a cold sore on my lip. Now it has been a little over 3 years since then and I have NOT had another genital outbreak. During those 3 year I have had 2 other cases of a cold sore infection on my lip, one of which I am experiencing now. I wanted to know, what are the chances that I have HSV 2? I have read about how each type of virus prefers their dormant resting place and I was thinking that if I were infected by HSV 1 genitally and orally that it makes more sense as to why I have had 2 occurrences of oral herpes and 0 genital since I have been diagnosed. I figured that if I had the HSV 2 type that I would be experiencing genital outbreaks instead. Can you please help me figure this out. I can always go get a test done but some expert advice would just make me feel better. If you give me like a 90% or higher chance that it is HSV1 my mind would definitely be at ease.

nope , none of it makes a difference in my opinion. assume nothing and follow up with testing.

I guess I should have noted that I have only had 2 sexual partners and they were almost back to back. The one I am married to today did have a cold sore that broke out around the same time I did. The other one I was with before him did not have any oral or genital symptoms. I should also probably note that I do shave in that area so cuts are common. I'm not sure if this would make a difference. But I do agree, I should get a test. I am just not concerned too much with it right now. Once I am ready to get pregnant I think it would be best to know for sure.

It's most likely hsv1 though you could have hsv1 orally and hsv2 genitally too. I'd follow up on it with a type specific herpes igg blood test at some point so that you are sure of your status.
