sudden HSV1 gential out break,,

OK,,, every year I go for my annual check up and get a full std panal completed... well for the first time this year I got a letter informing me that I was HSV1 positive but negitive for hsv2,,, When I went to my docter she informed me that I had been testing postive for this for years but they are just now being made to inform people, and that it is just a coldsore virus and she has it *** well, but they now have to inform people that if you have a cold sore and preform oral sex then your partner or yourself can get it on the gentials.  Well,, that was 6 months ago, and all of a sudden I started having a bad feeling in my gentials and went to the docter and she told me that she was pretty sure it was gential herpes and took a swab test to be sure. It will take 2 weeks for the results to come back. But my questions are....

WHy would this come on all of a sudden?,, I rember having a cold sore when I was young but why would it just pop up all of a sudden on my gentials? I didnt have a cold sore neither did my husband,,, and he is not showing showing any signs of gential herpes.

Is it true that HSV1 mainly likes to live on the face and since it is not in its main area, the chances of me getting it again in the gentials are very slim?

WHat are the chances that I could pass it on to my partners gentials?

I have been placed on 2 pills every 4 hours for ten days,, will I always have to take pills?

THis is so upseting to me,,,, I just dont understand why this would just pop up on my gentials out of the blue, when I havent even had a cold sore since I was a child!

Hello

I am sorry to hear about your recent scare.    Any more Herpes questios should be addressed on the herpes forum.

You asked, "WHy would this come on all of a sudden?,, I rember having a cold sore when I was young but why would it just pop up all of a sudden on my gentials? "

I am hopeful your physician is wrong.

You asked, "Is it true that HSV1 mainly likes to live on the face and since it is not in its main area, the chances of me getting it again in the gentials are very slim?"

If you have HSV-1 oral, then you are immune to getting HSV-1 genitally.

You asked, "WHat are the chances that I could pass it on to my partners gentials?"

Assuming you are talking about HSV-1 orally, If you have or do perform oral sex on him. you can pass it to him, and there is a chance (a low one) that he can get HSV-1 genitally.

I have been placed on 2 pills every 4 hours for ten days,, will I always have to take pills?

No.   These pills are probably Valtrex (or some derivative of it), and are prescribed to lower the active virus titer count.  It will make your lesions disappear faster.   That is if you really do have HSV-1 gentialy.  I hope you don't.  Let us know your test results.

I encourage you to read through the herpes forums.
