How do I test neg. for HSV 1 and HSV 2 seperatly but positive for them together??

So I went to the doc. about a week ago... and the Doc said that I may have HSV well I went and got tested ... well the results came in today and the said that I tested Neg. for HVS1 and  I also tested Neg. for HSV2  but they ran the tests together and they came back positive ... How can that happen Im kinda shocked.... Can someone help?

The non-type specific test that I assume he is referring to is frequently falsely positive which is why we don't in general recommend it be done.

If there's a chance that this is a newly acquired infection for you, you'll need to repeat the type specific tests again in 4 months. Should you get a return of symptoms, return to your provider for a lesion culture and typing. Was a lesion culture done on your current symptoms or just a blood test?  

If you have a regular partner, they too need type specific herpes igg blood testing done.
