I just found out he had his first outbreak since weve been together today. We had sex with a condom four days ago, Im freaking out a little that he was probably shedding the virus at this time. The outbreak is at the base of his penis.
also, where is this handbook? I cant find it
yes he was negative for hsv1 and positive for hsv2, knowing him he didnt get a paper with the results. Ill follow up with it, the tests his dr ran he said that he could tell hes been exposed to it a decent amount of time ago but that he hasnt had any recent active outbreaks, I wanna say it was IgM. Maybe he just doesnt know what he is talking about, he doesnt seem like a very good md in the first place from the stuff my boyfriend has told me he says.
combined herpes testing tells you nothing about your herpes status. did he follow up with type specific herpes igg blood testing? if so, ask him to get a copy of the results to post here - thanks!
He had a combined test at first and i want to say it was 17 or 7...i dont remember, it was high though I remember that much. Thats what his doctor told him, but he also told him if he hast had any outbreaks that he shouldnt bother even telling me his results. Why do you think I shouldnt get tested anymore? I thought it was weird that the doctor also told him not to take the valtrex because eveywhere I read says it helps reduce viral shedding and reduce the risk of transferring to an uninfected partner.
it's not likely that he'd build up a tolerance to valtrex over time. I encourage you and your partner to read the free herpes handbook we recommend in our read before posting post on the forum if you haven't already.
I wouldn't bother with more testing for yourself at this point either if you are planning on staying together.
I can best help you if you post your bf's actual test results - e.g. hsv1 igg 6.9 and hsv2 igg 2.1 or whatever they are. That way we can confirm that he was properly tested and see if he needs any additional confirmatory testing done. fyi - there isn't any test that shows if you've had any ob's in the last few months.
