is there any way i can can find out how long ive had hsv 1?

I've recently dating a girl, she told me she had hsv 1 cold sore virus and she takes valtrex to keep her outbreaks surpressed.. before her telling me this info we've maybe kissed once or twice. now AFTER she told me that info we had sex. not to mention im a girl.. a week later I got tested for hsv 1 and 2 and my hsv 1 results came back positive. HERPES AB TYPE 1 LGG 1.14 (that's the result).. the lab doctor said I had it for awhile because my levels were high.. my question is could I have caught this from her or someone else and how long ago?

well kissing and oral sex would've been your risks. you've had no symptoms in either location and if you don't get any within the next week, no real reason for any further testing.

statistically 1 out of every 2-3 people you've ever kissed has had hsv1 orally. It's incredibly common.

your hsv1 igg is barely positive. no way to know if it's recent or something you had for awhile. it might not even be accurate when it's that low.

so what do you do?  well if you had contracted hsv1 genitally from sex with this partner, odds are you would've had obvious symptoms by now or in the next week. totally up to you if you even want to bother testing again for herpes from this. really not worth the time or money to be honest.

does this partner have hsv1 orally, genitally or both?
