is this herpes?

It started with a few fluid filled bumps including one on my upper lip. I went to my Dr and he prescribes valtrex 1g three times daily for 7 days. The bumps have been there 3 weeks now and the anti virals have done nothing. Now it also seems to be spreading. Does anyone know if this is herpes?

I read that steroid makes herpes worse... So if steroid is helping then u know it's not herpes.

I believe the dermatologist will be able to do the swab ...

God bless, S

I went back to the Dr, and now they say it does not look like herpes and might be a allergic reaction to something, but referred me to a dermatologist. Will a dermatologist be able to perform the test? They prescribed me steroids for now so I will see if that helps.

Hi, you should have a swab of the blisters within 48 hours to confirm they are infact herpes. You can also have a blood test as many people got these at childhood.
Either way get tested but bottom line the meds should have helped them heal. Recommeded for first time outbreaks would be 1000 grams twice a day for 7 days so for taking 3 a day surely would have helped. If you touching them you could cause them to spread and not heal properly.
These maynot be a herpes outbreak. as thats why you need to test.
