Thanks for your suggestion. Infact I had already done that (applying vaseline) since
yesterday. Also I had stopped the other stuff I had been trying on initially, as you rightly
guessed ,in an effort to dry out the area. I have used undiluted dettol antiseptic on a cotton bud
and though it burned initially and blackened the area, it has stopped cracking at the sides and bleeding. coz the skin is drying out and peeling out a little.I just cover it up with a strip of band aid .But it is hard to brush and open up.
But anyway, thanks for your reassuring words and suggestions. Have a nice day.
About 1/3 of us contract oral herpes by the time we start public school. We get it from our caregivers and playmates. The rest of us contract oral herpes starting when we are teenagers and start kissing anyone who will let us. Not many of us make it to the old folks home without oral herpes - just most of us aren't getting obvious cold sores to know it.
As Jess already said - lesions in the corners of the mouth aren't always herpes. I would stop applying everything you've mentioned to this and just get put vaseline on it for now until you can be seen by your provider. You've been trying to dry it out and in that area where everytime you open your mouth a little too wide it makes it crack open again, you need to be moisturizing it to keep the skin soft and suptle. The vaseline will stay in place better than castor oil will ( castor oil is too thin ).

Well, thanks for the suggestion and the reply .However, to be honest, could performing
oral sex be a cause. This occurred a couple of years back as well, could it be the possible cause and effect. In fact I had the mouth lesion on the very same corner of the mouth. The lesion is outside, just touching one corner of the lips and is about a quarter of a centimetre. I have never had actual sex .
I am confused and scared. Please help. Is there any other way cold sores or lesions
can be contracted?
Thanks for your help.
Sores on the corner of the mouth might be cheilitis. Google that and see what you find.
Why are you embarrassed? If it is herpes, then you are in good company. Over 60% of the US has oral herpes.
I am one that is leery of using anything that hasn't been tested, especially on my face. Its possible that the stuff you are using might be making it worse. Tea tree oil can help speed up healing, but I don't know that I would put that on my mouth, at least not full strength.
Google cheilitis, and see what you think about that. An article might offer treatments, too.
