odds of recurrance gential hsv1

Hi, let me explain my situation. 37m, not curcimicized ,almost 3 years ago i was diagnosed with genital hsv1. i was swabbed first then did a blood test 1-2 month after to confirm type. never really had a problem with OB after that. i had sex with co worker with condom but not for oral sex almost a month ago. a week later i get a small pin size red mark slighty raised, no pain , no discharge, no itching, no burning during urination. goes away few days later, another 2 come back. this been going on for almost 3 weeks. i see urologist yesterday, he tells me to take valtrex for 10 days and lotrimin 2x a day for 5 days. i feel he just diagnosed me with herpes OB cause of my history. any advice? he aslo said to cut argenine intake and increase lysine is that true?

no reason to change your diet. the lysine/arginine theory didn't pan out outside of the test tube. In fact, they are currently using arginine in studies on herpes.   the urologist you saw is greatly misinformed about herpes both by what he said to you about diet changes and also the wrong dose of antivirals you were prescribed :(

odds are this isn't your hsv1 reoccurring. obviously something is going on  though so  avoiding sex until the skin is back to normal is a good idea.

the valtrex dose for a recurrence is 500mg 2x/day for 3 days.  10 days is only necessary for the initial infection.

I completely agree - he heard herpes and threw the 2 most likely suspects at you - yeast treatment and herpes treatment , in the hopes that 1 of them will work.

Thanks grace. Ur great here. And u lift up my spirits when I read ur responses here. I'm gonna take valtrex for 3 days and the fungal cream. If it doesn't work out do u recommend I see another urologist or a dermatologist

zovirax pills can be used to treat oral herpes or genital herpes.

I'd recommend a dermatologist. urologists are more "plumbing" doc's than they are rash docs.

zovirax ointment isn't really helpful for genital herpes at all. I sure hope you didn't fill that prescription!
