trying to be realistic-Please respond someone

I tested positive for Hsv1 and Hsv2 back in March. Since then I have gotten a second opinion and was pleased to see those results were negative. I finally received the index values from my first test and am now pretty sure I have this virus at least hsv2 due to the high index value. Both test claim to be herpes select tests. Is there any logical reason why my index values could be so high on one and almost non existent on the other? I will definitely get a third test done in about 6 more months. If it is positive which i'm sure it will be I will go with it. If it is negative I may think about doing the western blot to be more sure. Again i'm trying to be realistic hear and now that I see how high my index value was so high on the first test I feel the second test may be wrong.

reference range on my first test:
.89 IV or less negative
.90-1.10 IV equivocal
1.11 IV or greater positive

1st test results:
hsv1 glycoprotein G Ab, IgG 1.09 IV
hsv2 glycoprotein G Antibody, IgG 10.06 IV

reference range on my 2nd test:
1.10 positive

I've read that the number doesn't really mean too much. With that being said I've seen lots of people posting their results on here, but I've never seen a number as high as mine. Have any of you seen #'s higher than 10 before?

Thanks

Thank you for your response. No, I haven't taken any type of antiviral medication (except for tea tree oil if that counts). One thing I also found weird is that according to the results that I received through the mail, my results were sent out to a lab in Washington state i'm not sure if that means anything. I will talk to my doctor about sending my sample out for a WB.

At this point you have to have the WB for a conclusive result either way. And, in the meantime, it would be wise to operate under the belief that you have contracted HSV2.

That's the 'official' statement.

Having said that, if I were you I would be very optimistic about the outcome of your WB.  And I'm basing that on your low, low values this time around.

You have not been taking any antivirals or herpes meds these past several months have you?  You know they can and do drive your antibody count down with continued use.

Please Help!!

I finally got a third test done during my annual. Results just came back a couple of days ago. Its been over a year from any possible exposure, a year since the positive result, and 9 months since my second opinion test that came back negative. I explained to my doctor that I had a second opinion and that the results were negative and she  said it was strange because once you are positive the antibodies will always show in your system, she asked me where I got the test done I told her and I told her I wanted another test done. She didn't give me any hassell about it. I told her to just send me the results because if they came back positive I wouldn't be surprised anyway since I have already been diagnosed. I figured my second opinion results could've been the mistake. To my surprise when I opened the results they came back as hsv1 igg ab .13  and hsv2 igg ab .18  reference range <.90 = a negative result and hsv ab igm .48 reference range <.91 = a negative result, I still need to call my doctor to see what she thinks could've happened and if she considers me negative for this disease.

I always make it a point to get tested for hsv1 and 2 during my annual because its so easily spread. When I was tested before it wasn't due to any specific symptoms although I have always had problems with extreme itching in my genital region even before I was sexually active, so if I have ever had an outbreak I don't know if I would realize it. I have never seen any blisters or tale tell signs of herpes. I don't want to have this disease, but I'm so confused with the results. WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS SITUATION?

Thank you please respond.

I think at this point  you should consult with your doctor about this. Something isnt right. To test high and then to test negative doesnot make sence. Let us know what you find out. ok?

Thank you for your reply.

The very first test was the high hsv2 result and the second opinion test I tested negative for both. I'm guessing the 2nd opinion test was probably wrong. Do you know anything about the values. Do you know how high the index value can go for a positive? Everyone says over 3.5 is high but I have a 10. Just by going through the blogs I don't think I've seen anyone else post results that high.

Thank you,

Hi and welcome. Different testing time offers different results. If it is going up then it would be more confirned positive. The more time for the virus to produce more antibodies
