I am male 25 years of age, tested for Herpes with HSV 1/2 IGG.

My doctor said I have been exposed to HSV-1. When I asked that whether I will pass this on to to anyone I am sexually active with he said and I quote " How can you pass something you dont have?". He said i shouldn't worry. I have never had any cold sores or any genital signs of herpes or any genital sores at all. I had chicken pox in the past. Can you please help me understand what my test results mean?

Your Dr is completely mistaken. If you have hsv1 antibodies then you have the virus. There is no "I've been exposed but don't have it". I would retest with igg only. You've probably had it since early childhood and don't get cold sores. This is very common. You can pass it through oral sex but the odds are low. Also remember that mist adults have it so it's definitely not uncommon.
