worried

i am 40 yrs old and married 16 yrs the 1st time and divorced for 3 ys with a few partners and married for 4 yrs now. i was tested for herpes on an annual when i was single and it was negative. Now i have what started out as a cut and then turned into a sore/chancre and have developed one right next to it over the last 2weeks. I have no other symptoms and i have been faithful and my husband has been faithful, I know this because he broke his back 3 yrs ago and only leaves the house when I take him. Is it possible for me to have had herpes before the marriage and just now having an outbreak? I did have chickenpox when I was 24 and never had a cold sore before

I don't think your provider properly understands the herpes blood testing she is ordering actually. the igg doesn't go up higher during recurrences. if this was a newly acquired herpes infection for you, your blood test might not reflect infection with herpes for several weeks or even months.    There should've been a lesion culture also done on your active symptoms, not just the blood testing.  The .90 result is actually a negative result. It's in the equivocal range which typically is negative if enough time  has passed since the risk of infection and we never consider someone being infected if they test in that range.

has your husband been tested yet to know his status?  once we know his status we can better figure out if you need further testing done or not.

I meant false positive not false negative. She said that since I was tested during what looked to be an "outbreak" that the test results should have been higher, she has never seen them come back as .90 on both and the range was .90 - 1.10 to being positive

So I got my results today Igg .90 for hsv1 and .90 for hsv2. I have never had a cold sore in my life and I am 41 years of age and either has my husband. The dr said that with it being a .90 that it could be a false negative and unless I had another "outbreak" then I probably dont have Hsv2. So is this true?

call and see if your test results are back - they shouldn't take weeks.

have your husband specifically ask to see his herpes test results to see if and how he was tested for herpes.

He says they specifically tested him because he was worried about it after his 1st wife and they told him during intake that any std he had would show. Do you know for certain that they dont test for herpes in prison? Also, is it possible that he has had herpes all these years with no outbreaks in over 15 yrs and gave it to me? and if so why has it taken 4 years for me to have an outbreak and why hasnt he had one since I have. We had sex 2 days before I broke out. I am so confused over this. It is very painful and uncomfortable and thankfully my outbreak is external and not internal but I cant imagine going through this all the time. My immune system is down I know because I had the hysterectomy in August and during surgery my ureter was injured so I had a complete blockage where I had a nephrectomy for 12 weeks and a chronic kidney infection, I was septic and hospitalized for 10days and then had 2 root canals since then with more antibiotics for the infection, so basically I have been on antibiotics since August and was anemic for a bit also. I am "okay" with herpes as long as I can understand it. I will deal with it and we have a strong marriage we just want to be educated. Unfortunately the dr's (both family and gyn) are just well this is what you have and we can give you some medicine for it when you get an outbreak, wait for the test to come back and deal with your symptoms on your own and out the door they send you. Sorry this is long and I am venting and thank you Grace for responding to me

they don't test for herpes in prison.

he'll need to seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test from his provider to see what his status is also.

Yes I am positive I was tested 3 months before meeting him and it was a blood test and no partners in between the testing and him. I went to the dr today and she said it looks like Herpes and gave me Famvir and of course drew more blood and said the test would be back in a couple of weeks. I spoke to my husband and he suspects that his 1st wife of 18 yrs ago had it and kept it a secret. He said that he broke out really bad one time for about 2 weeks and she said it was a yeast infection that he had caught from her and was given medication that the dr gave them both through her and that she seemed to have to have alot of "yeast infections". He has had a couple of episodes of what he thought was jock itch in the 90"s and nothing since. He went to prison back in 2003 where they tested him for everything because they have to before putting you in general population and all tests came back negative.

have you been seen and had a proper work up and testing done to determine if this is herpes?

had you  had other partners after you were tested for herpes and are you sure herpes was part of your testing?

has your current partner been tested to know his herpes status?
