I had my first herpes outbreak last week, and went to a clinic to have everything tested. They performed a culture. They called today with the results, and told me that I had both Type 1 and Type 2.
I don't understand how both types could have caused the outbreak. I know that you can contract both. I also know that if you perform a blood test for herpes when the sores aren't actually present, some of the older tests tend to confuse the antibodies for Type 1 and Type 2. But since they performed a culture on the sores, they should be able to tell me which type was causing them, correct? Does anyone have some words of wisdom?
