Can this be done?

Newly diagnosed with uterine cancer... can a laparoscopic hysterectomy be done with this problem?  Does it require being cut from side to side?  Just wondering... would like to not have a huge wound site.

Ty for the info.  I really don't have much to go on except the results.  I go to see the "DR" (lol) on June 9.  I can't get them to do anything sooner.  I don't know what term it is.. I don't even know what that is.  I so new to all this.  If I knew more.. then I would feel so much better about it.  So, they won't educate me.. I'll read and try to learn on my own.. which brings me here.  Thanks!

Hi there, I am also so sory to here of your diagnosis the word "cancer" is very scary , it is one area in medicine where the advances have been astronomical, Let me clarify what a laproscopic surgery is for you, its as above says you have usually 4 prongs inserted into the 1 inch diagonal incisions ( or a bit less than an inch) the prongs are long metal tubes one is to insert the laproscope to view your internal organs, the three others fill your belly with gas, like a big ballon so the surgeon can insert instruments in through the tubes and while viewing ona screen and in the abdomen itself see what he is doing. Its a minimally invasive surgery, recovery time is about  \what above said , if you have the option the easiest method is DaVinci Lapro Robotic assisted, very very expensive not all hospitals have one (yet, they will so try for that if not go for the leep, no need for a hip to hip incision thes days except for rare case ie)very large tumors etc,,,what did they term your CIN I , or CIN II ?

First I'm so sorry about your cancer diagnosis.

If I'm not mistaken, as long as the cancer is in early stages it is possible that your hysterectomy could be done laparoscopically & vaginally (LAVH).  If you have it done laparoscopically, you will not be cut from side to side:  you will have about 3-4 small incisions (about an inch long each).  You still have a 6-8 week recovery because it is still major surgery but it wouldn't take your incisions as long to heal.

It will be up to your surgeon though, especially if they see something else that they need to investigate further.
