Do you need hormones after a total hysterectomy?  When do you know you need hormones after a total hysterectomy?  Is there any problems if you do not take hormones after a total hysterectomy (46 years old)?

Hello,
If you got total hysterectomy with oopherectomy done, then you may need hormone replacement. You can take short term hormone replacement therapy with estrogen.  Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hot flashes, wakeful nights and mood swings, probably.  If you aren't having those, you probably don't need hormones.  Your doctor should be able to advise you.
