21 years old, chronic constipation

This all started about 4 months ago, I woke up one morning and couldn't lift my shoulder, it felt honestly like it had been ripped out of socket, but I was never injured there previously. I went to the chiropractor and he gave me an adjustment... the shoulder pain went away, however, since then I have had chronic constipation, and my BMs are sometimes less than once a week. Before the adjustment it was twice a day. Whenever I do have the urge to go, I literally have to cross my legs or contort my body to even release the smallest amount of feces. I strain and strain, but nothing happens. I can't even feel it most of the time, and I never have pain in my lower abdomen, like you would normally if you were constipated. I've tried laxatives, to no avail, also once I went to the Emergency Room and the attending recommended Fleets Phosphosoda, and that didn't work either. I'm starting to worry about colon issues, and thinking there is some sort of blockage or a tumor or something. I read something about anismus, the pelvic floor being damaged, but honestly I don't understand most of it. I need a little guidance here, starting to freak out. PLEASE HELP!

Definately continue to research and visit doctors and I believe seeing a Naturopath on top of your regular doctor could help you a lot. In the meen time I would take 250-1,000mg of magnesium citrate with each meal until your bowels become regular. Then decrease amounts as needed to find the right dosage for you. Trust me try it, it should help with your symptom of constipation. Be patient and give it a few days.

I think this is my purpose in life right now....to tell anyone that will listen about how a persons diet can drastically change their life.  I'm 45 and up until last Aug. all was well except for the constant pain in my feet and the occassional bout with allergies...I was able to eat what I wanted..when I wanted.

Then all of a sudden I noticed that I was constantly suffering from constipation then I would have diarrhea..never a normal bowel movement.  Then I noticed that both hands and both feet constantly tingled and at times felt like they were on fire.  Then I had body aches, itchy/watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing...ALL THE TIME!!

I visited ten....yes I said TEN different doctors and was diagnosed with diabetes, idopathic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, depression, shingles and IBS.  Talk about a person with nothing to live for.  All those docs had me on so many differnt meds that I was in a constant brain fog and was not able to function properly...my love of life had disappeared.  The pain management doc I was seeing had me on a 75mic patch of Fentanyl to be changed ever 2 days.  If you not familiar with Fentanyl...it is 50 times stronger than morphine and as close to heroin as you can get.

One day I was at my lowest point and decided to take matters into my own hands.  I began researching food allergies and the effect they can have on the body and mind.  I was blown away.....I saw for the first time that I could actually begin to feel better by simply changing my diet.

The first thing to go was gluten.  Gluten is a protein that the body does not recognize and, if ingested, the body will begin attacking it to purge the foreing subastance.  Once the body goes into attack mode a person will experience, blood shot eyes, watery eyes, stomach cramps, bloating, constipation/diarrhea, weight loss and other symptoms.  I had every one of them.

After 2 weeks I began to feel better and then eliminated dairy, soy and nuts from my diet.  My allergies are getting better, no more stomach cramps, bloating and my general body aches and pains are beginning to disappear.

Anyway...all of you that have been diagnosed with IBS..I would urge you to begin searching Celiacs Disease and glutten intollerance.  I bet if you change your diet you will see improvement as well.

I would deffinetly go to your gastroenerologist and have him do a colonoscopy. Try not to worry as so far there is no sign of any blood.

Trust and go to your doctor ok?

Best to you
