disagree w/ IBS

i was recently diagnosed w/ IBS and im having a really hard time swallowing it.  6 wks ago I had a sudden case of diarhea come on, being constant except when I took to much immodium to make it through work. I've basically had no pain, but my stomach constantly gurgles and is bloated.  I had a colonscopy that showed no irritation.  I've suffered from incontincence, no warning, not even a minute, and if I need to pass gas, I run in fear.  There is no color usually to my stool, it's clear and foamy & mucousy.  It doesn't matter if I eat or not.  It feels the same throughtout the whole day.  It only felt better when they put me on metranidazole- to treat parasites- but it slowly started to come back so the doctor said that couldn't be it.  I didn't suffer at all when I was on it- is there any possibily that I needed a stronger dosage, or are these regular symptoms of IBS?  A little background- I'm in my mid-twenties, was in shape but am too tired to move now and ate really healthy.

I second deni55's comments: they're increasingly finding parasites with resistance to metronidazole these days.  I had a friend with Giardia who required three rounds of treatment before the symptoms went away for good.

Research has shown that IBS symptoms can sometimes be improved with antibiotics.  Personally, that just makes me suspect there's bad bugs involved, and it's not always just gut hyperactivity alone.

Cut out all dairy. Your tummy hates it! Your tummy wants lots of healthy vegies everyday and not roasted vegies. And Im sorry you need to exercise again.

One course of treatment may not have been enough.  Why would the doctor not want to run a stool specimen again to see if the parasite issue was completely cleared up..or did he/she?

To me it sounds like you do have IBS...I can be wrong but I know those symptoms...and thats what it seem to be. I have taken Imodiums just to be able to go places. Do you keep a food diary that can be help to see if theres something that makes you more sick than other. I'm not sure about hte foamy stools and all but I do get mucus in it. Usually a colonscopy wouldn't show much, it might show some inflamation but thats all, its hard to see IBS, they usually check to make sure you don't have anything else.
Right now I'm On Dicetel which helps with spasm. Well I hope you can find what is the real problem. Good luck.
