Help for diverticulitis when acute.

What is the best treatment for diverticulitis? Are there any foods to absolutely avoid and are there any that might help? Also, are there any medications when having acute pain ?

I agree; I hope this next year is better for you and remember that your friends and family (both in real life and online) are here to help!

Hi, it's me, I am fortunately able to get back on line. I don't know if people woud consider this good or bad news..... could probably go either way. Thanks for the good wish for this new year, I am hoping and praying it will be better for all, say that every year, but someday it will happen, just have to have faith I guess. I try so hard to do just that, even when things seem unsurmountable(sp, doesn't look right). Sometimes life just seems to hard, would be easier not to have to deal with it, then think of all of those with a limited time to live (like my sister when she was dying of cancer) who want nothing more than just some more time here. Sounding macabre,(sp again!) so think I better stop! So good to hear from you, hope this finds you well. Best Wishes to You and yours always, Tired55

Hi patient 915, haven't heard from you in a while, just wanted to wish you and your loved ones a Happy, Healthy New Year, hope it is better for all. I am going back to where I live and most of the time do not get signal on my broadband (got it because no hi speed and supposed to open a new verizon tower on hill above me,will see when I get home tomorrow) so I don't knowif I will be able to continue to communicate, I sure hope I will be able too, have a few people here I care for a great deal. Anyway, hope this is not my "swan song". Take Very Good Care, Tired55

Hi again, just realized that the cake you are making is for your cousin, not your sister so you obviously don't have a future brother in law. Sorry, I don't know how I got so confused,at least I remembered the cake, just not who it is for. Again, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night (morning I guess-almost 3:00 am)Hope you get my msg, before you get this post or you might think I'm crazy. I'm really not I promise, just tired so will go now>

Haha, thanks!!!  Sometimes I wish that when I first joined MedHelp, I had picked a more interesting name, but too late now!!  I've been very busy lately as I am making a wedding cake in the beginning of January.  I offered to make my cousin's wedding cake (for free), and now his fiancee is being a demanding bride.  I may never leave my kitchen this month!!

Thanks again for your patience, you should change your name from patient915 to "patience915" at least where I'm concerned. Am not on facebook yet, not sure I want to be, signed up for twitter but first time I tried to log on had trouble with password, seems to happen a lot, wonder if I may have a virus. Battery on pc is going, going, gone-hope you get this!!!

It's all good now!!  MedHelp (and facebook, and myspace, and whatever else is out there) can be difficult to figure out.  Let me know if you have any questions about MedHelp stuff (I've been here for a while, so I've figured out most of the technical things).

I'm really sorry for confusing you or upsetting you. I think I just asked you to be my friend on my post, didn't use the correct protocol for this site, I'm very new and apparently don't know what I'm doing! I just always open my mail and go to wherever they direct me, replies or new posts etc. Guess I better get with it!! Again, very sorry for the confusion, I certainly did not mean to cause you any stress, esp. this time of year!  Tired55

I'm very confused.  Did you request to add me as a friend on MedHelp?  I have never rejected someone's friend request on MedHelp and I don't remember receiving a friend request from you.  If you did send me a friend request and I rejected it, I am very very sorry and it was a complete mistake.  I'll send you a friend request now and I would like to be friends and I'd be happy to talk about your question in the previous post.  Sorry!!!

Hi again, guess you decided not to be a friend and I respect that although I'm disappointed.  this is a very busy time of year and I'm sure you must be trying to get your holiday season off to a good start, I wish you much success. Thank you for answering my post and I wish you health and happiness(on this site the two are definitely linked aren't they?) now and always.  Tired55

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, just got your message, thank you for wishing me well. How about you, how are you doing? I know we haven't talked much but I would really like it if you would agree to be one of my friends. I am relatively new to this site but think it is exellent. Not only can you get information and advice from fellow sufferers; you can also get professional advice if you are lucky. And the range of topics seem to include all of my "woes", both physically and mentally. I am a disabled RN but my field of expertise(well, maybe not expertise but rather knowledge) is OB and neonatal. Haven't noticed too many questions on those subjects. I am afraid sometimes to give advice as an RN cannot make any diagnosis (besides nursing diagnosis that are outlined and approved  to use) so I am afraid if I give someone my opinion that I may be crossing some sort of line. Would you know anything about that? My diverticulitis attack has subsided for now, but I never know when it will raise its ugly head. Hope to talk soon, Tired55

Thanks for your suggestions, I sometimes don't get enough exercise but have been getting too much this last couple of months as hubby had open heart surgery, trying to help him and he is still only allowed to lift 10 lbs so rest falls on my shoulders(and boy are they sore, both literally and figuratively < that doesn't look like I spelled it right, don't have spellcheck, guess i had better see about getting it). Most foods upset my stomach,so just usually eat yogurt- cereal (Cheerios) almonds and fruit. Been expanding more lately as we have been eating out quite a bit. Shame on me but sometimes at the end of the day just can't function anymore.

Things that you can try without seeing a doctor are eliminating different foods from your diet and see if any of those help or lifestyle changes (ex. more exercise).

No, not going to gastroenterologist, actually not going to any Dr. for this problem, that's why I am asking questions on this site-hoping to pick peoples brains for any info I can get. Thanks for your reply and wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving! Tired55

Is the current doctor you are working with a gastroenterologist?  If not, I would recommend getting a gastroenterologist.

Thanks for the welcome. I do have IBS, wish I just thought I had it. Further complicated by pain meds and muscle relaxers for herniated thirasic disc and fibro.  I haven't discussed diverticulitis with my Dr. as have already overwhelmed him with everything else that is causing problems. I'm afraid he's ready to run, I'm sure I am not the greatest pt. as little progress has been made with my fibro (inc IBS) in the 12 yrs. he has been putting up with me! I saw another post from you about some info you have given me but can't find the post with the info.  Thanks for taking the time to help, it is much appreciated!!!  Tired55

Welcome to the IBS community!  Yes, but I would recommend talking to your doctor about this.  Do you have IBS or think you have IBS?
