IS IBS Pain Constant ?

After visiting 4 doctors the last doctor I met who is a gastroenterologist suggests I have IBS. I have posted a question else where in the forum about my constant pain below my left rib cage at the side. I'm not sure how I got it(http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Gastroenterology/Upper-left-quadrant-pain-for-35-years/show/1647058#post_7497308).

The pain varies from mild hurting to burning, to extreme levels of twisted pain and the feeling of a hurting wound. Its been there for 3 years and has never stopped. Since the last month its become horrible so I've left office for quite some time and I'm at home.

I've done a ct-scan and a colonoscopy both of which were done unprofessionally, so I'll be getting them done again !

But is IBS pain constant ?

RE: Spleenic Flexture Syndrome. That is exactly where my pain is, no front abdominal pain at all though, it's all in the back, right in that "corner". a constant dull aching, with pretty much constant diarrhea. The pain doesnt seem to subside even after defecation. I am trying to get the doctor to refer me on to rule out Chronic Pancreatitis though, as I was a heavy drinker for 20 years. If that is ruled out once and for all, I'd then be more comfortable with a diagnosis of "only" IBS.

I had IBS like symptoms previously, but they worsened after I took a course of antibiotics (ofloxacin + ornidazole) for an infection...can it be related ?

My pain is present below my left rib cage to the side, a doctor I spoke to indicated it was the splenic flexure and also mentioned about the splenic flexure syndrome. But how can a pain be continuous, non-stop and that too for years.....as of now It has aggravated as if it has control over my life, not allowing me to do anything.

I have done some blood tests which came back normal with the exception of elevated ALT/AST which seems like a fatty liver.

I've done some more tests are their reports are awaited.

For some of us...yes...it can be.
I find that it depends whether or not I'm going through a constipated stage or a diarrhea one.
I would much rather have the runs. With the "runs stage" I experience what can only be described as " labor pains". It only lasts for the amount of time that the diarrhea is happening.

With constipation...I want to die. My stomach and intestines are in so much distress that I sometimes think it's never going to end...I have had suicidal "thoughts" in the past due to constipation.

The pain will stick around sometimes for ages, while other times it subsides or lessens.
