My gastro is saying i have IBS - What do you think please

Hi all, this is my situation, Start of june this year... I noticed alot of bright red blood in the toilet and on the paper, and occastional green mucus.
The day after i started to have bad stomach pains which are constant, iver the next 10-14 days i lost 3 stone in weight going from 19 stone muscley to 16 stone( every1 saying i looked like different person)

After the 14 days of the weight loss , my weigth maintained at 16 stone...The bleeding carried on up intill 5 weeks ago from todays date, the stomach pains are still there constantly. i have put 1.5 stone on so now 17.5 stone.

Ive had loads of tests done including

Sigmoidoscopy
Camera dwn throat
barium enenma
barium meal
chest xray
stomach xray
full abdominal ultrasound
Hep and Hiv test
Loads other blood tests
celiac test

my other syptoms are, i feel very tired can sleep for 14 hours and still be knackered. i have burning sensation under my arm pits, itching sensation on chest..

can some1 with IBs comfirm if this looks like IBS please

Sorry, I also wanted to add that Crohn's and ulcerative colitis have the same exact symptoms as you mentioned above: excessive weight loss, fever, and general feeling of being unwell.  Abdominal pain is also a big one.  Itching sensation is not a symptom of these two, but it DEFINITELY is not a symptom of IBS.  Neither is fatigue.

I just noticed all the tests you've done.  They seem excessive, especially with such obvious symptoms.  I strongly suggest that you find another doctor, and I hope you already have.

Hi there!  Whoa!  Sorry I didn't get on this board sooner!  I've been diagnosed with IBS-D (though I think I actually have Habba Syndrome), and neither one of those syndromes carry the symptoms you mentioned.  First, no blood is associated with either, so my guess is your doctor is just guessing because he/she doesn't know what it is...a classic criterion for another IBS diagnosis.

My advice?  Get another opinion.  IMMEDIATELY!  Go to another doctor.  If you're bleeding and have mucus, those symptoms are usually associated with more and sometimes VERY serious problems--Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, cancer, diverticulitis--and I'm surprised your doctor even suggested you have something as simple and harmless as IBS.  

Also, pay attention to how the blood looks.  If it appears fresh and bright red, it might be something like hemorrhoids (though I would hope that would have been ruled out already).  Also, if you have constipation, you may have small tears that are causing bleeding...and in this case it IS possible to have IBS-C (C for constipation).  However, if the blood is as noticeable as you said, then I would be much more worried, especially if the blood is obvious and looks like it has clotted.  Really, your symptoms almost scream Crohn's, colitis, or cancer, so I'm confused by your diagnosis.

Anyway, bottom line: blood and mucus are absolutely NOT characteristic of IBS...IBS is often a blanket term for digestive problems that doctors cannot identify.  IBS has only two symptoms--constipation or diarrhea, and bloating.  Blood and mucus are indicative of inflammation, which has NOTHING to do with IBS.  You and your doctor should be extremely worried if there is blood present in your stool.  Go see another doctor IMMEDIATELY!

Thanks for your reply, ive had all the tests, and all are negative, this has been going on now for 4/5 months, i would of thought if this was a cancer, they would of found it by now?? also if the weight was because of a cancer 4 mnths ago, wouldnt it keep dropping off me, instead of increasing? thanks for your reply m8

This does not sound anything like IBS to me at all. I would truly go and get another opinion. I was diagnosed 9 yrs ago but i know i had it much longer than that . I also went for a second opinion before i took any meds. And they confirmed also that i did indeed have it. I also know someone with severe IBS as well as Colitis and your symtoms dont match anything that i have experianced or other people i know. You need to see someone else and soon.

Diarrhea is not a nice disease (what is nice about diseases anyway?).  There are different types of diarrhea. Yes, even the ppopular people cannot be saved from this disease.
IBS or irritable bowel syndrome is sometimes associated with Habba syndrome. Dr. Saad F. Habba first described Habba Syndrome, as a condition in which chronic diarrhea is associated with abnormal activity and excess bile being released by the gall bladder.  Dr. Habba (who checks out – he's got his bona fides in order) first described and attached his name to the syndrome (which was published) in the early 2000s.  It is different from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, as it doesn't present with abdominal pain and generally improves with fasting.  Treatment is usually a course of bile acid binding agent therapy, and some of them are generic – so it might not run you payday loans to treat it, if you get diagnosed.
