Pepto Bismol

Here I am again with still unresolved issues.  Just managed to make it through Christmas, barely.

I am still not certain if I have IBS, a motility problem or SIBO.  One course of Xifaxan did not seem to help and doc didn't want to try a second course.

He has now told me to taker Pepto Bismol 4 times a day and Pepcid.  Between the two, my chronic drymouth and throat is much worse.  He wants me to do this 4 times a day.  Some days I use it 4 times and other days maybe twice.  Haven't taken any more Pepcid due to the dryness.

Nurse at Stanford also told me to try the enteric peppermint oil and  30 days of probiotics after the Xifaxan treatment.

I am still waking up nauseated and having bloating problems.  Always feels like my stomach is in my throat, no vomiting.

Anyone else been on Pepto daily for this long?

So tired of feeling this way.

Thank you for the response.
I don't have diarrhea.  I have had problems with stomach pain, lower abdominal pain, bloating and nausea.  Have had problems or reactions with other meds so was told to take the Peoto 4 times a day and Pepcid.  I cannot take them both together or the dry mouth and throat are horrible!  Now, it seems even the blandest food and not much, gives me a stomach ache.  Tigan barely helped at all and I am back to drinking ginger and honey.  Even the enteric peppermint oil is repeating on me.  Now, my low back and hip are hurting again and am afraid it is all the Pepto.  I read it can cause myscle problems.  I am still not even sure what I have and feel my GI doctor has given up.

Hi, bismuth subsalicylate, calcium carbonate belongs to a class of medications called antacids and adsorbents. It helps with nausea and vomiting. It works by helping to slow the growth of bacteria that might be causing the diarrhea. You can try to cut down on the dosage as this sometimes causes dryness. Regards.
