has my baby got IBS?

my 17mnth old son was born 14wks premature. from birth he has suffered with, and been diagnosed with severe GERD. recently, i would say the past 20 days, he has rapidly alternated between frequent loose stools, to constipation. theese changes can occur every few days, to as little as every few hours. in the past he has been tested for celiac, lactose intolerance, and wheat intolerance. he was clear for all of these, except the GERD. he has previously been on ranitadine, gaviscon infant and domperidone, non of which were succesfull. he is currently on omeprazole, and is having an endoscopy nxt week. im wondering if the effects of such a severe gastrointestinal illness such as GERD, can cause IBS in such young infants.

The same problem that goes to my son current is almost two year old.He is having difficulty passing stools. He's been like it probably on and off like this for 6 months.
We took him to visit the pediatrician and was given laxatives, which help to solve the problem. But only for maybe a week or two and then it comes back again. We also took him to others pediatrician, but they did the same. It seemed to clear up for a while, but the last few days it was back. It is very upsetting to see as it looks like he is in some pain, and when it finally comes it is like a stone. He eats a lot of fruit and fresh vegetables. I think really maybe is the formula milk that I am giving, will try to make a change on this. Thanks for your information

Yup... Had totally forgotten one very important point DHA can make sure the kids born smarter.
Anyway a lot's of kids suffer from constipation and there are a number of reasons, diet being the obvious one. Formula milk, such as Dumex Mamil that contain with Pre-biotics which is some so call good bacteria which help to promote healthy guts and prevent children from getting constipated.
On top of that fiber and drink more water is a must.
If your child's situation got worse, do get advise from paediatrician.

You can try on Mamil Dumex as well, rather than applying pro-biotic medication with your children. This milk formula itself had contained with pre-biotics in the milk, which help to promote healthy guts and prevent children from getting constipated.

Thanks for your opinion. In fact, I did alot of research over this milk brand powder, it contains pre-biotic, DHA and also nutrition that's required! Therefore, it is good milk powder for children that I recommended.

Allergy to certain formula milk might also one of the factors that cause constipation and indirectly cause of IBS due to long term suffered with constipation issue. Thus, we have to find out which formula milk is suitable for our children in order help in preventing allergy issues. I have tried many formula milk brands and able to found the right formula for my child. Now, Andrew is on Mamil for nearly 6 months, so far we have no issue with it. As it contains of prebiotics which helps soften stool and prevent digestive discomfort. Different children have different physique, hence the formula milk that suitable for my son might not suitable for others. By the way, it's just my personal opinion that I wanted to share over here. It's just a references for you guys, hope this help.

My baby was suffering with the exact IBS issue. PD advised me to give my baby a warm bath. She told me that relaxing is important in keeping IBS under control. As well as, suggested me to consider about probiotics. Currently, was applying probiotics to my baby and it worked fine.

Home remedies like, daily tummy massage, prune juice, diet recommendation from the pediatrician, formulas and some mild osmotic laxative, is the constipation is serious and make sure it is recommended by pediatrician and do not take it frequently. Five of these remedies is working great for my son, so far have no issue with these remedies.

There is no evidence that IBS can be inherited to the next generation, but we cannot deny it might happen as well. As your daughter has no abdominal pain. I will be advising you to try out some home constipation remedies to see whether it helps to get rid of the current problem.

Since your child have no feeling pain then it shouldn't be IBS, because the key symptom of IBS is abdominal pain. I think your child is having common constipation issue. Just try some constipation remedies should be fine. If you want to further confirm that whether your children is having IBS, you can consult to your pd for further information.

Hi guys, my little girl recently having constipation problem. I noticed that she has changed in bowel movement pattern (it's seem hard in passing stool and the stool is hard and little). She has a hard belly, surprisingly she doesn't feel pain. My husband thought that it's just a normal child's constipation problem, but my mother does not agree and told me about that Ashley is having ibs issue because previously I was having the same problem during pregnancy. I really have no idea how to differentiate between normal constipation and IBS? Maybe you guys can be helpful?

In my opinion, parents should always take pre-cautions to see any good solution to prevent them from getting constipation. For me, it is important to make sure my children intake enough fiber and vege sometimes I do make them fruit juice & smoothie as well, this can help to promote your children to have  a better guts.

I would like to share a similar experience with my boy currently 2 yo. I don't know whether he is  GERD or not. But somehow having very serious constipation. He can hold his stool for more than 3 days. I myself having a hard time to make him pause.. He cried so loud and finally he manage to push a bit. His stool was so hard. Many parents told me that it is common, when he grows up, this symptom will automatically go away. But I still cannot stand top to see him suffering from having the pain.
Until this milk powder- Mail Dumex that were recommended by one of friend seem like had solved all my worries. After using this milk powder for 2 months, I see a lot of improvement over my boy. He starts having softer stool and more consistent for toilet.
You can have a try on this product, it works for my boy

It sounds like you're on the right track, because you knew to test for certain food sensitivities.  I believe I was born with IBS and GERD as well.  The trouble with food sensitivities is that a person doesn't necessarily test positive for them with the traditional allergy tests.  Even my allergist will attest to this.  It's hard to say what to do with a baby, though, because the baby can't tell you that certain foods are bothering his stomach or not.  I feel sorry for the little guy, because IBS is miserable!  It's quite common for people with IBS to be gluten and lactose intolerant.  Yet, when I get tested for food allergies the traditional way at the allergist's office, the tests show negative, even though it's clear that I have these sensitivities.  The allergist told me that he knows of a patient who tested negative for milk allergy, yet if the patient were to drink milk right there in front of him, the patient would still have a reaction.  So, my allergist knows that food sensitivities and intolerances don't always test positive.  What he said is that this means that while I react to certain foods, they won't kill me.  Since I can tell which foods bother me, though, by avoiding them, I no longer have to take reflux medications.

I don't know what to say about infants, though.  My mother told me I was obviously allergic to tomatoes when I was a baby, but I grew out of it.  But, I don't think that's really the case, though, because I can't eat any of the nightshade family of produce.  Some of these sensitivities never go away.
