colonoscopy

Hi,
Has anyone had a colonoscopy and experienced pain during the procedure? i just had one done (along with an upper endoscopy) and though I did not remember the tube being put down my throat, thank goodness, i remember experiencing alot of pain and discomfort when my doc performed the colonoscopy. I remember crying out when I was drugged and woke up with tears. One of my co-workers had this done, and said that she woke up without feeling anything. Do i have a masochistic doc or is this common? I know it is an invasive procedure, but I thought I would not feel anything due to the sedative. Maybe I have a low threshold when it comes to pain.
I don't see the doctor for a week, so I do not know what the results are.
Anyone else experience this procedure?

Sensitivity to foods, I believe should definitley be taken into consideration with problems of the bowel. I have noticed that I cannot tolerate dairy products (and I love milk), whole grains, particular wheat and gluten products, and soy. I substitute a product called Rice Dream for milk. The others I just avoid.

I believe after awhile you get to know what foods are less apt to cause problems.

Thanks for your input. I wish you well.

Your further explanation is appreciated, and it will help others facing similar health issues.  I too was diagnosed with IBS after going through testing such as you have.  Your last sentence sums it up well.  Eventually, I found out that I am sensitive to various foods such as soy, apples, and grains which cause my symptoms.  As long as I avoid the amount of certain foods or certain foods altogether, the symptoms do not occur or at least are much lower in severity.

IBS to my understanding is a diagnosis of exclusion. My doctor ruled out other conditions of the bowel before deciding on the IBS diagnosis.  Certain medical tests are done to make this decision. I have undergone a colonscopy,  an upper g.i. endoscopy, along with a abdominal CAT scan, the use of antiobiotices for a month, and urine, stool and blood tests. My symptoms were taken into consideration along with these tests.
My guess is,  if other diseases are ruled out, the diagnosis of IBS is the one doctor's fall back on.
Take care!

It is good that you've had your colonoscopy and that you won't need one again for 10 years.  However, as I understand, it is used to check for polyps and tumors in the intestinal tract and not to diagnose IBS.  How did your doctor arrive at an IBS diagnosis?

Thank you to all who responded to my question. I appreciate your honest answers. I am just so glad that it will be  10 years before i have to have it done again.
Results were as expected. IBS. Now, I just continue to deal with it on a day be day basis.
I have to depend on my optimistic outlook!

I had one done about a month ago and did the exact same thing- was crying out in pain and had tears but was all a bit of a space cadet for the whole thing. I think its just one of those things- not a very nice procedure!
