newly diagnosed with ibs- any advice?

I have just been diagnosed with ibs and pretty much only told to start taking in more fiber. Dr. said meds were just as bad as the ibs. Any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

the best advise a person could get for ibs is to take things slow and let the body and gut heal ,ibs is termed for lots of different reasons and im sure if u read a lot of posts around here u will see diferent folks with ibs with different symptoms ,when eating just relax that the secret ,eat smaller meals and give the body time to digest ,plenty of good fesh water and a balanced diet ,we all get knoted up from time to time some people just need a little longer to get the digestion back up and running ,but in time u will find  the balance and the triggers but in the meantime dont get worried or stressd if u dont ,it can make things worst ,just rem ibs is just a nuisance and nothing else ,and while certain diets may help in the long run ,it is really about finding ways to restore the balance in your life and your body ,what upset that balance is unique to you .

i hope u feel better soon

In addition to the other comments that are pretty much what I was going to mention, until I saw that I would just be repeating what was already said, you may want to try digestive enzymes and probiotics.  Most of us are low on the "friendly" gut bacteria.  My naturopath recommended FloraStor and said that it's important to get the right kind, because many probiotics either simply don't work, or they're actually pathogenic.  I'm using one that has the same species (Saccharomyces Boulardii + MOS) in the same numbers for about half the price by the brand name Jarrow.

Another good one to try is something you can get information on mercola.com.  He has plenty of good information about probiotics.  Whether you get his formula or not, I think you'll find that his information is actually quite useful.

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble, but what type of trouble, are you having ibs with constipation or with diarreha?  If you have the constipation, then the fibre may be what you need, if not, let me know your systems, because i maybe able to give you some advice.  Been suffering with my stomach since i was young, but really starting having more problems since gallbladder was removed over 13 years ago.

thanks
