Trace of protein in urine. Cause?

My daughters test revealed a trace of protein in her urine. We're also looking for any signs of an autoimmune disease. What can cause protein in the urine and what does a "trace" signify?

I have ADD and so worried as well my doctor made it seem like whatever and I been crying all day. Both my parents are Diabetics but there's really not a big reason I should be it.
Urinanalysis:
Specific gravity 1.025
PH- 6
Leukocyte- 75 worried about
Nitrite- negative
Protein- 500 worried about
Glucose-250 worried about
Ketones- 150 worried about
Uronilingen semi-QN -8
Bilirubin- 3
Blood hemoglobin BLD- Negative

Please help I need answers I won't be going to bed :( diabetes or kidney disease is my biggest fear I guess it's kidney disease. I'm a say I been a alcohol drinker since my teen years but I have slowed down this year to twice a week or once a week but been off of it since thanksgiving and don't plan to drink. I have to admit I been dieting a lot I have lost 24 pounds since May which is good but don't know if this is making all these readings? As I was starving as well when I got them read and I read online that if u r starving it can make Ketosis level go up. My most concerns are the protein and WBC.

thank you for very informative replies. I just had my daughter have her urinalysis and she had also a protein trace +/- , I had this checked with a Doctor and she said to try antibiotics for 6 days and worst case is dialysis. Her Leukocyte is also Positive 1, My question is this really necessary? She also had abdominal pains and strep throat with fever 3 days ago but all gone now.

hi linda..i hope u got ur answer eventhough not from here,anyway..traces means less then 0.8 g/dl     and the criteria for diagnosis of nephrotic disease is more then 3.5 g/dl .assuming ur little girl is of 4-6 years old at time when symptoms appeared.   PSCGN   (post streptococcal glomrulonephritis)  is a condition associated with kidney symptoms after a strep infection  but 80% people recover on their own.other needs steroids.in some cases CTX too.
considiring auto immune is good theory since evry autoimmune disease have kidney involvement at some extent.  suppose its wegeners disease that would involve lungs with kidney.and if it is alports disease that would involve ear problems.    hope ur daughter get better .if u still have any questions please dont hesitAte.

Hi,

How is your daughter?  The kidneys filter the waste products out and leave in the things the body needs, like proteins. Proteins from the blood can escape into the urine when the filters of the kidney, called glomeruli, are damaged.  Large amounts of protein in the urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. However, if there is only trace amount, the protein may be minimal. It is best that a second urine sample a few days later be done. A 24-hour urine sample may also be requested to quantify the protein content.

Take care and keep us posted.
