could sugar cause high protein test?

My son just saw a oncologist/hematologist because of low white bld counts as well as low Red bl counts.  He thinks he is ok upon examination but is running more smears on blood this week.   He also took a Urinalysis test.  When we arrived home they called and said that he was +3 of 4 on the protein in the urine. He has an appt to see a Kidney doc. next week.  He is also doing a 24 hr urine collect today.  My question is ...he ate hunny bun, milk, mt.dew and pepsi some hours before the doc visit.  Could this be why the high protein????  We did not know he would take that test or we would have been more careful of what he ate.  He is 18 yrs old.  I am sure they are doing test because my brother had renal cell carcenoma and are being cautious.  Please let me know what you think.  Thanks for your answers.

Now today..we received the ultrasound...the report to the oncologist says he has mild right hydronephrosis......I am so scared for my son. Please tell me what is wrong.  His wbc was down again today...please somebody tell me.   I know the definition ..it is a blockage.  could all these symptoms mean he has a tumor???

sooo..update....if anyone is out there.

24 hr urine protein 197 (range 30-150)
doc read history paper said bp is good
looked at urine gave today and said .. high protein today also but "1000" is high to me.
you seem healthy no reason for high protein.
come back in 3 months.  
I asked for ultra sound on kidneys. he agreed.
