The Doc didn't say a word. What should I do?

I recently was going over my records from a pretty signigicant accident which occurred 3 yrs ago.  I had several CT scans both in the hospital and our patient.  One of the Drs. sent me for a CT scan 1 1/2 years later and since I was having the CT with contrast I was sent for a blood test.  I was cleared for the test and I happened to view the blood test now 1 1/2 yrs later and I noticed my alkaline phosphatase was 177, ALT was 42 and my eGFR was 59.  I am a female over 50 and am wondering if I have kidney damage or what.  Not a single dr said a word to me in regards to the test and I had the CT scan performed.  All this time has past and I am still here, however I am wonder what I should do.

GFR of 59 is right on the line between Stage 2 (mild)  and Stage 3 (moderate), so it isn't life threatening or anything. I would liken it to high cholesterol, if you do nothing - you may be okay, but to have the best chance of living a long time it is best to make a few dietary changes and especially cut out the NSAIDS (Aleve, naproxen, Advil, ibuprofen, etc.) as they are really really hard on the kidneys. I went from a GFR of 54% to a GFR of 75% doing these two things. Now this is a bit unusual, usually the diet just helps things stay the same or raise a little, but it does show the possibilities.I am 38 so that may play a factor as well. GRF naturally declines as you age.

I would talk to your doctor and get them to do another GFR to confirm the results, and ask them if altering your diet or reducing NSAIDS is necessary. I know for me I will be on the diet for life, although I have loosened it a bit. I am not quite as strict as I was in the beginning.

Just have them re-test your creatinine. See where it is at. If your not having any symptoms that go along with kidney disease I wouldn't worry about it much.
