nitrofurantoin

I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI.  I have a hard time swallowing pills.  Can these be broken up?

You should contact your pharmacist to find out.
Sometimes pills/tablets are enteric coated,
so they don't get broken down too early by gastric acid.
S/he can suggest an alternative option, if necessary.
Cheers,
Niko
