Interpreting labs is not my strong point, but I believe low wbc's, rbc's or even platelets can be an indication for cancer (although not usually). It sounds like your son is possibly anemic, but the question is why. There are so many causes for anemia that cancer is just a small possibility. How about the LDH and immunoglobulin levels?
I got a copy of labs. Wbc was 2.9 hct was low and hgb was low. Both were slightly low. He had blood work in nov and all levels have dropped since then. The platelets were in the normal range on low end but were down from nov labs. Any ideas?
Hopefully Children's Hospital will be able to shed some light on this and find that it's nothing very serious. Please keep us posted after your appointment with them.
No night sweats or fevers.
The low WBC count and weight loss could be something serious (like lymphoma or leukemia), but the rash is throwing me off. I don't think that is a typical symptom of lymphoma or leukemia. Any night sweats or fevers?
Weight loss was not on purpose. Dr is sending him to a children hospital for further testing. Only result they told me was that wbc was extremely low and flu test was negative and sugar was slightly elevated.
Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your son. It's hard to say what he may have as the symptoms as a whole don't really correlate with anything that I know of (and I'm not a doctor). A few questions: Was the weight loss on purpose or unintentional? Did his doctor want to do any other tests on him? How was his LDH levels on his blood test?
