Swollen lymph node in goin

Hi, Earlier this week i noticed a swollen lymph node on each side of my groin/top of leg. I will be getting an ultra sound just to see whats going on but my doctor said not to worry about it, its probably nothing. They seem to have gotten a bit smaller over the week also and i have no symptoms of any sort..feel great. What might this be??

Thnaks

Good to hear Diesel.  I'm glad you're being proactive about your care, even though it's likely to be nothing.  Hope your ultrasound and blood work come back clean as a whistle.

Hey Mochadelicious,

No, no other symptoms and i feel 110%.

Went to the doctor the other day and he said he wasn't worried and that they did feel smaller than before. He ordered another ultra sound to make sure they have decreased in size and they also took blood to check my WBC count only because i asked him to..he didn't think it needed to be done.

The doctor told me that with lymphoma there is usually swollen nodes in the neck and chest (I have neither). I have had a skin irritation in my groin area which i pointed out to him. He said it looked like a bacterial infection maybe yeast infection. This infection may be the cause he said.

Hi Diesel,
Are you presenting with any other symptoms?  Although you can have just swollen lymph nodes with lymphoma, it often presents with other symptoms too like fever, weight loss and night sweats.  Also, some people experience intense itching.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to see your doctor again, but if I were you I still wouldn't be too concerned, especially since your ultrasound came back fine and assuming you have no other symptoms.  Sometimes when you harbor an infection and your lymph nodes swell, they don't always shrink back to thier original size.  If your doctor is concerned, he could do a biopsy, which is the only way to know for sure if it's lymphoma.

Hey, I`m back. So it has been about two months since i first noticed these nodes and nothing has chanced since my last post. The two nodes are still present and are semi swollen with no pain or visibility. I am going to contact my doctor tomorrow and get in again to see whats up. Should I be concerned that they are still there?

That sounds like good news to me.  Sometimes lymph nodes don't completely shrink all the way down to their original size after fighting an infection.  This may be what' s going on with you.

Pea size isn't very big but still probably a good idea to keep an eye on them for a while.  Thanks for keeping us posted.

Hey sorry i haven't been back here in awhile. Anyways the results from the  ultra sound came back and they said that yes the two(2) nodes were swollen but nothing looked concerning. They want to see me again in a few weeks to see how they are. At this point I cant tell if they are swollen or just so close to the skin due to almost zero fat. Its usually the size of a pee sometimes a bit bigger but for the most part very small.

This is good news, Diesel.  I'm sure the results of your ultrasound will show an infection or at least no signs of lymphoma.  Keep thinking positive okay?  Keep this in mind: Swollen nodes usually means infection and rarely means lymphoma.  Also, you're very young.  70% of people diagnosed with NHL are over the age of 50, so it's pretty unlikely you have it.

Please keep us posted next week when you get your results.

Had the ultrasound today. Should get the results early this coming week. The lymph nodes that were swollen are much smaller than they were so im thinking infection especially because i`m 22 yr old male in top physical condition. I'm hoping they will be gone in a few more days so i can forget about this.

It's probably just an infection of some sort.  I wouldn't worry too much since you haven't had them for very long and they are already starting to go back down.  If your doctor suspects an infection you might inquire about taking antibiotics to see if the nodes go down even more.
