HIGH AST/SGOT

General blood test done in August of 2011 read AST/SGOT 110, ALT/SGPT 31.

In February of 2012 my feet began to swell from under the calf and before the ankle.

A further test of my liver in feb 2012 showed a reading of 77 H AST/SGOT.  Can you advise on this?

DVT was done, nothing was found.  I am currently undergoing a detox programme, this has been for the past 6 weeks, IV (Phosphatidylcholine, liver detox 3 times a week for the past month) still my foot swells as the day progresses.  Can you advise on this as well?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The enzymes levels are decreasing, so please follow up. Leg edema is caused due to diseases affecting the liver, kidney or heart. It could also be due to varicose veins or deep vein thrombosis. Being overweight can be one of the causes of swollen ankles without pain, it can also occur due to edema or water retention. Eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Standing for a long time can also cause these symptoms. Take rest and elevate your legs while resting. Try to follow a low salt diet as this may reduce the swelling. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Have you had the hep a and b shot if not you may want to check on it.  Inflammation from the liver can cause swelling and pain in the calf and ankle.   See a hepatolgest for answers you may need treatment.
