Red Palms

Two months ago I had a mastectomy and was told I didn't need chemo or radiation as the lympth nodes showed no invasion of cancer.  However, about 3 weeks ago I noticed that the palms of my hands were very, very red.  I thought it was do to the new soap I purchased.  I stopped using it and went to a ph balanced soap.  The redness has lightened some and is now mostly around the outer parts of the palm leaving about a 1" space of white in the middle.  Can you tell me what this is indicative of?

Hello
How's those red palms doing these days? Curious. My sister in law who has hepatitis c has the red palms. She was told by her hepatologist normally this happens with individuals that have liver disease or hormonal issues. It's been 4 or more years now and she still has those red palms too and she completed interferon for a year and remains undetectable.  I hope this helps and hope your doing better.

Red palms are indeed caused by more than just liver disease.  I have read that hormone fluctuations can cause them.  Have you had any liver function blood work done?  If normal I wouldn't give it a second thought.    It could be related to the impact of your surgery and such.  I would relax about it.  I have red palms every now and then but it comes and goes.  I am in my early forties and believe it or not I notice it on a lot of women around me.  If it continues to worry you, I would mention it to your doctor.

Take care!
