elevated serum iron

I'm a 53 y.o. post menopausal woman. Recent blood tests show ALK, AST, ALT all in the normal range, GGT also normal,  but serum iron high at 201. I drink several times a week, usually 5-6 beers. With other results normal, is alcohol the cause of the high serum iron?  I take a lot of vitamin supplements, including a multi-vitamin with iron. If I stop drinking will the iron level go down? If so, how long will it take?

I would think if your serum iron is high to cut down on the source first (the iron in your multivitamin). If serum iron remains high they can do a TIBC (Total Iron Bind Capacity) test to see if you have an iron o-load issue. If you do have such a problem (as in hemachromatosis) then your liver usually bears the brunt, and your enzymes climb. Ask your Primary Care Doc about all of this for a more definitive answer
