I stopped the bicillin shots because I seemed to have so few Lyme symptoms left. Most of my symptoms at that time were primarily Babesia. I switched to oral Augmentin for 6 months. The oral seemed to maintain the status quo with no significant improvement or decline. Then, I switched to Ceftin and within a month I started getting worse. That's when the Bartonella roared back, so I ended up on Rocephin, which treats both Lyme and Bart.
In hindsight, I stopped the Bicillin shots too soon. (Wouldn't have prevented the Bart relapse, though.)
" How did ya'll do after stopping it? "
I relapsed.
Much thanks everyone!!
I think I may be improving. It's just odd in that I have felt bad with so many medications. I'm still new to the Bicillin though. There have been times that I was doing fine with a medication and get slammed after a few weeks, so I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet.
I've read stories of individuals that have taken them for months or years and were doing great. And then relapsed bad after stopping it.. How did ya'll do after stopping it?
Yes I do them at home. I haven't been icing it down (never seem to have any ice), but I have not been experiencing as much pain as I expected as of yet.
Never ever had a problem with bicillin shots during the many years I took them. Never iced the site. No sore butt, just the feeling that I'd had a shot there. But there are some precautions that should be followed but I doubt if many do them.
All I got was better.
Bicillin shots did wonders for me the first six weeks I took them. I think I got too confident and started pushing too soon with workouts and not eating as well.
Only way to know is to try, and I'm still trying to get back to where I was during those six weeks. Hope it works for you. ANd don't be afraid of the horror stories people tell about the shots. Just make sure you ice your butt reall well before each shot and rub it out and walk after taking one.
I did Bicillin for the better part of a year. After the first shot, I had terrible pain in my ribs, which eased up over the next few days. (My rib pain has always been a measuring stick for whether or not a med is working for me.) As the pain eased up, I realized I felt a little better and was ready for the next shot. It took several weeks to transition from feeling worse after a shot to feeling better after a shot.
Bicillin worked well on my Lyme, but in hindsight, I learned that the penicillins don't treat Bartonella. (I ended up later with a bad Bart relapse.)
Lots of people don't get a herx and just slowly start feeling better, so just give it some time to see how the Bicillin affects you.
Bicillin works for some people and doesn't work for others. But even if you don't notice improvement right away, you need to give it at least a couple months.
I encourage you to have a symptom tracker. For well over a year, I checked off my symptoms each day on a spreadsheet. It was very helpful, as my memory was so unreliable. It also helped me see how I was improving, as sometimes the progress is so slow, it's easy to overlook it.
I hope the Bicillin works well for you! If you haven't already figured it out, be sure to ice the injection site for a few minutes before the shot, and then use a hot pack afterwards to restore circulation and prevent a charlie horse.
Are you doing them at home? My husband gave me the shots, and a nurse friend came over to do them when my husband was out of town. I ended up doing a shot every 3 days as my insurance would only pay for 10 a month.
Thanks.
I meant a herx or improvement or something. I was just curious what others are getting from it. There's not been much activity on there lately though. Everyone must be taking a break.
I think I may be feeling a little better with the Bicillin. However I could be feeling a little better with a med for a few weeks and then end up right back where I started from, so I try not to get my hopes up..
I have not had that medicine but in general, not everyone experiences a herx with a new med if that is what you mean.
