Chest Pain?

For the last few days I've developed intermittant chest pain (left side) right where my heart it.  It isn't severe, just kinda achy.  It comes and goes, but I'm kinda concerned about it.  I'm having it right now accompanied with air hunger.  Very uncomfortable.  Does anyone else get this?  What causes it?  I'm going in this morning to see dr and will be interested to see what she says.  How can they deny that I am clearly having problems?

I get chest pain mostly on left side - I think it is inflammation in the rib cage area - it is sort of like indigestion pain - if I prod the ribs at the side of left breast area - it is very painful - the other side is also painful but not as bad.

Hi Skarey,

It is possible that the pain you're experiencing is Costochondritis. It can feel as if the pain is in your heart. Does it get worst when you lean forward or lift heavy objects?

"Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum). It causes sharp pain in the costosternal joint — where your ribs and breastbone are joined by rubbery cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis may mimic that of a heart attack or other heart conditions."

Of course, it would be wise to have your heart checked to make sure it's nothing serious.

Take care,

Dora

Yes, I get that ache too.  Now that I think about it, I get that shortness of breath a bit too -- though certainly not from running around.  The feeling comes out of nowhere and lasts for maybe 20-30 minutes and goes away.  Makes one a bit anxious while it's happening, eh.

I understand that Lyme bacteria like to congregate in certain tissues such as muscle and cartilage (think:  knees and elbows), and there is cartilage connecting ribs to breastbone.  There is also cartilage in the heart, I believe, in addition to muscle, so... well, you get the point.

My LLMD had me see a cardiologist a while back, just on general principles, and everything was okay, tho he does want to do an echocardiogram, which is an ultrasound of the heart, just to be sure.  I've not gotten around to that one yet.

If I were you, I'd be sure to tell my dr about the feeling, just so s/he knows.
