yeah, I hear you about talking to docs who don't really understand.
I had a nonLLMD doc scold me a while back for taking magnesium supplements because, he said, too much will damage your kidneys, and he had a snarl on his face when he said it. Dunno why, but he was really cranky about that and other things too. He was one of those 'just eat a balanced diet and you don't need vitamins' kind of docs. Since he didn't believe in Lyme, he also doesn't understand that Lyme use up magnesium in your body, and when it gets low, muscle cramps and twitches can occur.
I asked another doc (gathering data, or opinion shopping?), who told me that I'd get diarrhea before I got to the levels that would give kidney damage. (Milk of Magnesia, after all, was what my grandparents used for stomach upset and constipation.)
I don't begin to reach the upper limits of acceptable maximum of magnesium, so I stopped worrying about it. I just looked on the 'net and it says the minimum daily requirement (MDR) of magesium is 600 mg. I take 400 mg a day as supplements. I get some from diet (beans and vegetables mostly), but no diarrhea. Just a thought.
Yes resveratrol....... cant do a lower dose, well I guess I could maybe cut one in half since I only took one.
I don't take magnesium cuse the doc told me not to which I can't figure out why..... maybe when he thought it was lupus......
Hahaha a-hah on the 3rd day =D that's awesome...... trying to contemplate wether I should try it again.
My doc isn't the greatest but he is the only one I have that's not 500 for the first visit...... so I don't like talkin to much to him about the natural remedies I do to much.
Hard to say, but seems like it was maybe too much too fast. I did that with the new brand of astragalus I took a week or so ago ... it was a (much) bigger dose than the other brand I was used to, and it nailed me for about 3 days. First day, scary; second day, uncomfortable, third day, ah-HAH. So I dialed it back and am fine with a lower dose. Is a lower dose effective? Dunno, but gotta function day to day.
Knotweed = resveratrol, yes? I havent' tried it, but have some here. Been thinking about it.
Do you take magnesium supplements? My muscles don't ache or twitch when I'm taking it.
Cats claw has been pretty ok for me..... I started that japanese knotweed last night though.... and I took a herbal laxative tea with it (which I have drank many times before)
Yeah true....(NOT a grand mal siezure) for 1 1/2 hours til I slammed a liter of water. My main problems in lyme have been muscles and central nervous system, and my knees so just maybe thought the japanese knotweek was doing its job...... and maybe trying to release it from my muscles? Alittle to agressively?
True convulsions? If so, that might have been a reaction to something you took. People can be allergic or simply sensitive to meds and supps. I sure am.
Be sure your doc is aware of the vitamins and supplements you are taking. Medicine is medicine whether it comes from the pharmacist or the vitamin shelf in the store.
Cats claw hit me pretty hard and can cause a Herx, I think. My doc told me to lay off it.
Thanks ladies,
I would like to think of it as herxing and that its not my condition getting worse but don't know..... I might have over done it. I'm taking cats claw, vitamin c, b12, vitamin D, olive leaf, and azithromycin 250mg a day as well as wheatgrass powder (to detox) and detox tea and a probiotic (2million cells a day). I started a new herb last night japanese knotweed which is supposed to help with a lot of things in lyme -including central nervous system problems, and also including herxing- its also supposed to bring more blood to the areas that lyme likes to hide. I also went on a bike ride the same night..... and had a slice of cheescake which I haven't had in maybe a year.
And I don't know if it was ironic timing or not but the convulsions seemed to get alittle better after I downed about 1 liter of water. Another weird thing was during that I was freeeeezing.
Yeah, convulsions seem a bit much. I agree with Ree. Let us know how you do, okay?
What I know about herxing and from my experience, it's a worsening of your symptoms. If the herxing is too intense, then maybe the treatment should be backed off a little until things stabilize. I would contact your doctor and see what he/she wants to do. Hope you feel better soon.
And what about convulsions? About 1 1/2 hours......
