doxycycline is the generic form of this certain antibiotic. a lot of times this upsets ones stomach. if it does your doctor can recommend doryx. its the brand name version and is a lot more easily absorbed without side effects. the only thing is its really expensive.. der BRAND name.. and ins. might not cover it because a generic form is available.. even when the doc says i specifically cannot take the generic.. stingy dirtbags >:P if no luck there ask for doxycycline hyclate. i now take that and found the nausea and vomiting everytime after taking the meds have stopped.
I was having the 'doxy conversation' with my LLMD yesterday. He insists if it's taken with food, there is minimal/no problem. But that's not what I hear here from a number of posters. Can be an individual response, I guess, but .... I'll definitely take it with food.
Good for you for calling the LLMDs for an appointment. The sooner you book one, the sooner you'll get in to see them. An LLMD may put you on different meds than your current MD, and even LLMDs use different things at different times: there's no silver bullet, it's different for everyone depending on a lot of things. I know someone who was treated for Lyme and a coinfection and never had doxy at all. Go figure.
I'd probably do what you are doing, taking the meds prescribed now, since your current MD seems to believe you have Lyme, and then seeing what the LLMD says when you get there. There's no 'one size fits all' and MDs and LLMDs all have different approaches.
Let us know how you do.
In case you haven't been warned, note that doxy will make you more sun sensitive and is also hard on the stomach. I haven't taken it so I don't have personal experience, but have read about these side effects of the med and have consistently read of these completes associated with this med.
Good luck!
Hey Jackie... I decided to take it.. I just took it today was a little nervouse about it but i did it....Your more an likely right about not a yeast infection ( that was just my guess lol) Receptionist never really told me what she just said a minor bacteria infection thing so i thought yeast(didnt no that was a fungus so thats ruled out!) cause i have no idea what else is a minor thing from a gyno or really anything about infections in that place lol I should proably call and ask the exact thing i have. I tryed to ask when iwas on the phone with her but she just o no just minor bacteria so i just went with it.
My ID hasnt called wich is making me mad... I found 2 llmd's gonna take awhile to see them coupke months for both..so figuring if my ID starts me on meds wich would go on my insurance wich would be great then by the time i see my llmd ill already be started? wich i hope they dont mind...
Also called the pharmacy I had two prescriptions called one from the gyno one being doxy so im thinking they got it right... will double check with the gyno havent got a hold of him yet
Hope your doing well and everything is going good with you!
I'm not an MD and not medically trained, but to my knowledge, doxycycline would not treat a yeast infection. Doxy is an antibiotic that treats only bacteria (including Lyme), not yeast (which is in the fungus family).
In addition, antibiotics wipe out not only 'bad' bacteria but also the 'good' bacteria that protect your body against fungal infections.
It may be that the receptionist at the MD's office got things confused. I would check to be sure. If you can't get sense out of the MD's office, then call the pharmacy and ask what prescriptions have been called in by the MD's office.
Doxy is sometimes used to treat Lyme, and I think it was an 'original' antiLyme medication; however other antibiotics are often used by LLMDs, often in combination because of the peculiar way Lyme can hide in the body. Also, if you have a coinfection as yet undiagnosed (a disease other than Lyme that comes from the Lyme ticks), then other antibiotics or combinations of antibiotics or medications may be called for.
I am not attempting to contradict your MD or give you advice other than what your MD is prescribing, but just want to give you another view. If I were in your situation, I'd be getting myself in to see an LLMD asap. In the meantime, you'll have to decide whether to take the doxy. On that I have NO opinion or advice.
Let us know what happens and what you decide.
