Has anyone tried colloidal silver?

I've read a few stories where it really helped.  I was wondering if anyone here has tried it?

Don't apologize for the 'essay' -- well said and very interesting.  Keep it coming!  It's definitely a group effort here. ... and let us know how we can help you.

It's an exhaustively long story that begins with my trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with me (MS? Lyme? Still no answer...), but anyway, I ended up going to see a psychiatrist because of the anxiety, and in case I might be having a 'conversion' disorder or psychosomatic issue.  I've seen her for four years, and she is a holistic MD who has recommended a number of supplements.  She is originally from Russia and said that every household in her neighborhood had a silver utensil hanging above the stove that they put into pots whenever they cooked, believing that silver is an antibacertial element.  I accepted it as a cultural thing and an 'old wives' tale,' but then I realized that Band-Aids now sell silver-coated antimicrobial bandages and I started looking into it.

Silver does indeed have strong antimicrobial properties that aren't fully understood.  Holistic practitioners believe that colloidal silver may work by altering the electrical charge or balance within the body, making it inhospitable to some microbes.  I don't know if there is any science to that.  A lot of people swear by (well made) colloidal silver as a natural antibiotic, and in my adventures with the medical world, learning that doctors and researchers know a whole lot less than I thought, I've learned that a good number of home remedies seem to work for people--placebo or reality, either way, it's the same result.

If you take it, make sure to follow instructions and not to exceed the dosage indicated on your preparation.  Like other metals, silver can accumulate in your system and too much is not a good thing.

The phenomenon of colloidal silver turning people blue-gray sounds ridiculous, but it's real.  It's called argyria and the condition looks really alarming, but everything I've read about it has stated that, while it is permanent and certainly life altering (You're blue! And not even a pretty blue!), it's not dangerous in and of itself.  A headline made the rounds last year about a man who developed argyria from having taken too much colloidal silver died...he did, but he died from unrelated cardiovascular causes that were said not to have been linked with the silver use.

Sorry for the essay...I'm just trying to contribute.  I'm here because I'm exploring the possibility (again) that I may have Lyme and I saw this question and figured I may as well reply.

I wouldn't touch the stuff without an MD's oversight and approval.
