Sounds like you have a good lead to find a doctor through the Florida support group.
When you go see an LLMD, be sure to talk about your pregnancy and your baby. Sometimes in an active infection, Lyme is transferred to the baby in utero. You will want to know what symptoms to look out for and to have your baby checked out for possible Lyme and coinfections, too. (Bartonella and Babesia can transfer as well.)
If you are not sure about what tests to order, and you can see a LLMD in fairly short order, then go see the doctor first. But if you would like your own evidence before incurring the expense of an LLMD consultation, then I suggest the Western Blot first (or the panel, if cost isn't a big problem). Just know that it could still be a false negative. Sometimes, a person has to take some antibiotics first to help perk up a suppressed immune system to start making antibodies again. (I can't imagine a LLMD NOT ordering a Western Blot, so the money won't be spent in vain.)
I also ordered the whole coinfection panel as I was worried about missing a silent coinfection. I am glad I did because I don't think we would have known that I had Bartonella. The only Bart symptoms I had are also Lyme symptoms. However, this was an expensive panel. I was so desperate for answers at that point that I didn't care about the cost.
I hope you get answers soon!
Hi, I am currently living in FL and have a great LLMD in Sarasota.
I came from the DC suburbs, Northern Va, is where I had my first bite over 20 years ago.
We don't name doctors here but if you PM me I can give you names. I also belong to the Facebook FL support group and if you friend me, we have a list of all LLMD in Florida there.
Hope to hear from you.
Healing thoughts your way!
Hi --
I just did a googlesearch for
florida lyme disease association
and got quite a few leads.
I don't recall if we have anyone here who lives in Florida and could make a recommendation, but they might ...
We don't normally post Lyme docs' names in the open here to avoid getting them in trouble with their local medical boards, who often take the more restrictive view of Lyme diagnosis and treatment, but that kind of information can be communicated privately through the upper right corner of this page, under "inbox".
If you are limited to an area of Florida, like 'near Pensacola', you can put that in your post and then see if you get any private responses.
There are so many tests for Lyme and the possible co-infections carried by the same ticks, and the tests are not cheap, so having a knowledgeable MD's input into test selection to me seems the most accurate and cost-effective way to go.
Best wishes --
