Lyme Patients & Flying

I came across an article about hyperbaric chambers and treatments. What I found most interesting in this article was how one of the doctors mentioned disorienting symptoms occur after flying on a plane.
In Aug 2007 my fiancé and I planned a trip to mexico , after landing in mexico I was so disoriented and confused it was scary. I have never flown before and I have terrible ears (ear infections since the time I was born, operations, tubes inserted, the whole 9) So I thought my ears and equilibrium was the cause. After a day of rest after the flight I seem to be ok.. I noticed on 2nd day in mexico I had this spotted rash on my lower portion of my body, thinking it was a heat rash I took full cover for shade. The night of our 6th day there (leaving on the 7th) both my fiancé started to both get sick (sinus related) We flew home and I ended up having to stay home for quite a few days, my fiancé was not nearly as sick. I had vertigo and dizziness spells. I have never been so ill. It was scary. No vomiting or diarrhea ,but had a slight fever and an overall feeling of “somethings not right”
Ever since that flight I started to experience symptoms (fainting spells, nair and hair changes, ear ringing, muscle twitches, migraines, eye problems, neurological problems, AND MANY MORE) low and behold both my fiancé and I were diagnosed with Lyme disease in January 2009!

Wondering if anyone also has had this occur, im also worried because I completed my treatment, but still have a few lingering symptoms. We are getting married in Feb and heading to Punta Cana, a little nervous of the flight!!!!!

My do have a little confusion after being in a flight too, but my biggest problem is getting my chronic gastritis symptoms once in flight. Since being on my treatment my symptoms of flying have lessened greatly. I usually don't eat while in flight and drink only ginger ale. Sorry this happens to you, but I don't have relaly other advice except to maybe allow yourself more travel time to recoup from the flight.

Travel brings out the bugs, so if you take abx when you travel, you will be able to kill more off.  3 weeks of doxy is the standard treatment and it does not work...  If you are still having symptoms you still have lyme...I think you should get more abx and if I had known 14 months ago what I know now I would have gotten a picc line immediately and taken rocephin or tygacil and knocked out the infection.  The bacteria is multiplying, albeit slowly as we speak....DO NOT HESITATE...oh by the way..children are the most ill and then women and then men as a general rule however there are exceptions....GOOD LUCK

I had to fly a couple of times while very ill, both before and during treatment, and it was an extremely grueling experience.  I think that I have a lot of inflammation with my disease, and the changes in cabin pressure were almost like torture!

My most recent cross-county flight was a bit better now that I'm improved with treatment.  On the way out I had a lay-over, and while that's normally inconvenient it helped because I had time to stretch and get the juices flowing again.  On the way back it was a non-stop flight, and I was in the middle seat (which gives a person of my size almost no "wiggle" room), and I felt much worse after that.  Still way better than how I fared flying before treatment, though!
