There is a split in the medical community about how to test and treat Lyme. The CDC is imo behind the times in their approach, because it does not take into account the tricks that Lyme bacteria have to avoid doxycycline.
Lyme bacteria can and do hide in areas in the body where doxy cannot penetrate, and more up to date MDs know that and use different meds. Your doc seems to be following the CDC approach, and I would go to a Lyme specialist who understands more about Lyme.
If you go to the ILADS website, there is a referral function you can use to locate an ILADS member doc near you. Let us know if we can help, and also how you do, okay? Best wishes --
My test says IgM P41 Ab - Present - A- Abnormal- Meets positive criteria.
Thank you for responding. I thought that the 100mg of doxy for 21 days seemed like it wouldn't be enough, I questioned my doctor about it and she just said that's what the CDC recommends. I've had headaches, fatigue, muscle weakness and pain, bad stomach cramps, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, lethargy and neck stiffness and crackling. It seems like a lot of symptoms for only just now being diagnosed with Lyme.
I was on doxy and know many who are. We start at 200 mg twice a day. You need to be on it more than 21 days. If it's a brand new bite, 4-6 weeks is normal. An older bite needs a much longer time on it and should include a cyst Buster. LYME can go into a cyst format while it tries to avoid the antibiotics. There are many cyst busters. I take a natural one called grapefruit seed extract.
I am also not familiar with those test ranges. Usually with a western blot there are many more numbers.
I am not familiar with those ranges -- different tests are different -- and I don't recall what my numbers were.
The numbers won't be higher if you are sicker -- if you've got it, you've got it.
As to the dosage, that doesn't vary according to whether you are a little sick or a lot.
These are good questions for your doc --
