Thank you both!!! All doctors have given me the ok to take it. Though it is a steroid it is "different" as in many just a fluid retention drug and shouldn't have adverse side effects on my infections. Cross your fingers for me!
Leila, since getting Lyme, I have been treated for BP. There are tons of BP pills that are not steroids. I had to try many before one worked for me. Why don't you call the doc and ask her for one of those. With my really bad experience with steroids, I wouldn't take it since there are so many others.
Take care.
Florinef appears to be the brand name for generic Fludrocortisone, which appears to be cortisone, as you note.
Babesia is not bacterial, but is protozoan. So the question is whether cortisone will suppress your immune system in a way detrimental to fighting off a protozoal infection.
In your situation, I would call the Lyme doc's office and confirm with the doc that it is all right to take Florinef/Fludrocortisone. If you do this BEFORE you pick up the prescription, you won't be charged for it.
Your docs need to coordinate what they are prescribing for you to be sure they don't work at cross purposes, but if they aren't cross checking, then you are right to be double-checking on them before you take anything.
Good for you for raising this -- let us know what you hear back, okay?
