Treated for LD with antibiotics...developed a staph infection & nervous.

I am currently being treated for LD. Had allergic reaction to doxy and am now on amoxicillin 1500 mg a day. Breasts have been very sore and look like they've grown a cup size and developed what appears to be boils on breasts. Dr said it was a staph infection and prescribed Sulfamethoxazole. How can I develop an infection while on meds? Can this be life threatening?.....Dr said if it gets worse to go to ER.

Many strains of staph are resistant to amoxicillin. The sulfa should help. If not, insist on a culture and sensitivity.

(I saw you on another board! Small world.)

Good luck. Hope the infection clears quickly.

No need to worry unless the staph infection not responding to the medication. The doctor is being cautious since you don't want to mess around with staph. Good doctor!
