Bart is my biggest problem too, I have lots of anxiety, the burning pains and brain lesions with big time memory and balance problems. If the acupuncture works, I would go for it.
I don't get burning but I have had atrocious twitching.
I get my twitching totally under control by taking 900mg of magnesium daily. This is the max safe dose. I take a supp that is a mix of all the different types of magnesium -ates (citrate, orotate, etc) - mixing them makes them far better absorbed than just taking one type and also doesn't upset your tummy.
If I stop it for just 3 days the twitching comes back, so bad that I fall over while walking across the room, break things or even throw objects out of my hands involuntarily. I once ran out when I went to stay with a friend and she was so shocked to see what I was like that she wanted to call an ambulance!! But with mg I am perfectly fine.
You need to add calcium to mag as that is also essential for nerves. I take a lower dose of calcium - just 400mg daily I think.
The other thing that helps lots of nerve problems is vitamin B12. I did a series of injection for this. That helps more with general poor coordination. Without it I frequently walk into the door frame instead of getting myself through the door, for example, or try to eat and shove a forkful of food half up my nose, that type of thing.
I did a course of injectins for this. If you cannot get them, the next best thing is Jarrow b12 sublingual tabs (the only brand that works, based on a wide survey on another forum). You have to keep them under your tongue for as long as you can before swallowing.
If you get any useful info on bart or if you find the acupuncture helps you progress, please share any info you have here, OK?
Bart is my biggest problem right now and I am trying to learn anything I can to help beat it.
It may be that the twitching and burning doesn't cause your anxiety or make it worse ... it's possible that they are all manifestations of the infection.
I haven't had bartonella, so can't speak further to it, but there are some here who can, and I'm sure they will post soon.
It's good that you are so observant -- it's very helpful to those helping plot your recover.
Take care --
