UVBI Therapy

Anyone try UVBI (ultraviolet blood irradiation) for Lyme with success? My LLMD performs this and I was thinking of trying it.

I'm skeptical of this method because the name suggests that it shines light on the blood.  But what is this supposedly doing?  If the light is to have some effect on the bacteria in the blood, then all of your blood would need to be irradiated, and that doesn't sound easily done!  If the effect on some of the blood is to somehow propagate to the whole body, then I would definitely press the doc for the details on the mechanism.

I'm all for alternative treatments, but I like to understand the wisdom behind them.

You are smart to ask our opinions here. I have heard all kinds of alternative therapies and what might work for some, may not work for others but I am one who is interested in alternative therapies, who knows what will work so it's good to hear about then.

No problem! I understand. I looked into it further and it turns out you need to go off of antibiotics before having it done. I'm not willing to do that right now but if I decide to try it I'll post the results.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh ... but it happens here sometimes that people try to 'sell' a product they have an interest in.

You might ask your doc for some literature published on the UVBI concept and read it ... even if it's more technical than most of us would understand, it could give you a feel for the treatment.  I'm still skeptical, but that's me generally.

My motto is 'whatever works' -- and the question is whether this approach actually works.  Let us know how it goes if you decide to try it.  Best wishes --

I just want to note that I don't work for that company. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this alternative therapy. It's kind of like ozone therapy. My Lyme doctor does perform UVBI in addition to prescribing antibiotics. I also have heard of it being performed at certain Lyme clinics in addition to ozone. However, since it is considered alternative I was hesitant. Just wanted to know of anyone tried it with success.

I'd save your money and go to an LLMD who will treat with antibiotics.

Please reference the link above to a discussion on how UVBI therapy is useful for killing Lyme and other bacteria.

Haven't heard of that approach, but would do some reading on the topic before proceeding.
