What do I do about this yeast???

I read a old post that Jackie has had bad problems with yeast in the past.  I was hoping she or anyone else would give me some insight on this. I have had it in my mouth for 6 months.  My GP is the only doctor that has tried anything to help me.  I have taken a ton of anti-fungal meds.  They haven't touched the problem.  One doctor, without looking at my mouth, said it's a part of your immune system not working well. Then he didn't give me anything.  The ID doctor said he couldn't see anything.  My tongue is covered in the back and under my tongue with bumps.  I have tried changing diet, eating yogurt, anything else anyone suggests.  I've about decided I'm going to have to live with this. I really hope not. Any suggestions?

I was using a brand I bought from a company on the internet, but they have just stopped making that particular formulation.  I even called them but they didn't have a reason.  :(

The Mg was just by itself, not blended with anything.  I have switched to another brand now, that I get from the same internet site.  This Mg costs more than the discontinued one, so I'm looking around for options.  The one I have now, other than the price, is fine.

It's more the formulation than the brand that I look for ... I was told that any variety of Mg ending in "-ate" is most absorbale, so that's what I look for:  Mg malate, orotate, citrate, aspartate, etc.

I'll send you a private message through this site with the name of the company, so you can take a look at it online if you're interested.

What kind of magnesium did you use?  I tried some a while back, don't remember which, had the worse headache.  I am so sensitive to just about anything.

Don't forget about the magnesium, if you're not already taking it.  It made a really big difference for me in mood.

Not to worry.  Lyme affects the endocrine system and therefore the emotions, so my motto when I was ill and feeling down was:  "It's not me, it's the bugz."  And I'd keep repeating it in my head when I needed a boost.  Hang in there!

I think I will hold off on the YC while I'm on the diflucan.  I can't believe I'm dealing with this at this time.  I wish for the days when my health was good. It's real work now to just make it thru each day.  I suppose I'm feeling a little sorry for myself. Sorry.  Thanks again

The yeast can give you 'brain fog' similar to Lyme, as I seem to recall ... but I was a bit ... uh, foggy-brained at the time.  Definitely stay away from sweets and soft drinks till all this is sorted out.  Sugar just feeds the yeast.  I was very bloated and my eyes were bloodshot and my teeth were loose when the yeast was very strong, so Diflucan was the 'big gun' to go after it.

Read the package insert on the Diflucan about dry mouth, or look online for the information there.  Might be connected; I don't recall if I had that, it's been several years ago.

===>>>  Be sure your doc knows you are intending to take Yeast Cleanse ("YC") before you start it.  Both pharmaceuticals and herbals (and YC is partly herbal) are really just chemicals and should be equally respected when it comes to the possibility of drug/chemical interaction.  Vitamins and herbals somehow are thought of as insignificant and often not mentioned to MDs, but wise docs know to ask.  Nystatin is also an antifungal, so your doc is taking this seriously.

The label on YC says it contains:  Vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, zinc, caprylic acid, pau d'arco, grapefruit seed extract, garlic, licorice and tea tree oil, with lesser amounts of dong quai root, and fennel seed.

I don't know how long to take the YC, but I'm several months into it, and can still see the difference in how I am feeling better.  I think I had had a fungal sinus infection (such a dark, warm place!) that the yeast just decided to stay, so it's taking time to dislodge it, but I'm nearly there.

When I first started taking the YC (and I mention the brand only because it's the only such compound I know of in the market), I had what was probably a mild die-off reaction as sometimes happens also with Lyme, when the medications (whether herbal or otherwise) start killing the bad stuff and you feel worse for a while.  I just felt a little tired and foggy brained for a couple of days, then was okay.  So don't be surprised if it happens.  Instead of the full dose, I started with half and then worked up.

About me staying on the Diflucan for months, I suspect I am just very sensitive to fungal/mold infections, and yeast is definitely in that group.  Diflucan can't be taken indefinitely (hard on the liver, I think), which is why I went over to Yeast Cleanse for the sinus that was troubling me.

Keep your doc in the loop on what you're taking; docs often forget to ask.

Take care!  Keep us posted.

Thanks for answering me so soon.  My doctor started me on diflucan at 150 mg then added nystatin.  He later said the diflucan  wasn't strong enough.  I'm now on 400mg a day.  My eyes and lips are so dry. Could this be because of the diflucan? I was worried because it was still here after 6 months.  I see you had to stay on it for months.  I will see if I can find Yeast Cleanse online.  I feel like the yeast and the diflucan are a big part of why I feel so bad.

PS  When I stripped down my diet while killing off the yeast, I mean I really stripped it down:  only 'greens and proteins.'

No carbs, no sweets, no fruit, no ice cream, no nothing except low-carb vegetables and meat/seafood/eggs.

Low-carb veg include greens in particular, but there are a ton of lists online with suggestions.

I also drink milk for the calcium, altho many leafy greens have calcium as well.

I felt kind of lousy for the first week or so as my body adjusted to what it was and wasn't getting, but it wasn't bad, and it was definitely worth getting rid of the yeast.  I stayed on that diet for at least a month, I think more like 6 weeks, but not sure now.

I was put on Diflucan, which is by prescription.  It can be hard on the liver, as I recall, so that's why it can't be bought without a doc involved.  That way the doc is supposed to be watching to make sure your liver is okay while you're taking the med.

I was on Diflucan for several months and that worked for me.

I now take a supplement (no prescription needed) called Yeast Cleanse that can be bought online (maybe in stores too?  dunno).  It works really well for me, to keep the yeast beaten down.

Start with your doc, and see what s/he says.

Also strip as much sugar (and even non-sugar carbs like pasta and rice) out of your diet as you can.  Yeast loves sugar no matter in what form, so the less you eat of the yeast, the easier it is to get rid of the yeast.  I'm back to eating carbs now and no problem.
